Problem Statement

I'm talking about using Claude Code in the Mac Desktop app. I like using hotkeys and have appreciated the cmd+shift+m for changing the mode and so on. However, even after a mode or model is selected, the Mode or Model buttons are still selected, so any text input opens the popup menu again. The only way to navigate back to the message box is to use the mouse and click inside of it, which kind of defeats the purpose of hotkeys to open those selectors. Enter reopens the popup menu, and escape doesn't do anything.

Proposed Solution

I'd like as soon as the hotkey sequence is finished, that the input automatically switches back to the message box. For example, I press cmd+shift+i and then press 3 for Sonnet. Once I press 3, the next keystroke should register in the message box. If I select wrongly, I'll just have to use the cmd+shift+i hotkey to open the model selection menu again.

Alternative Solutions

Once a selection is made, immediately return to the message box. Or create another hotkey to get back to the message box.
The only workaround I've found is to click with the mouse.

Priority

Medium - Would be very helpful

Use Case Example

For example, I press cmd+shift+i and then press 3 for Sonnet. Once I press 3, the next keystroke should register in the message box. If I want to make a different selection, I'll just have to use the cmd+shift+i hotkey to open the model selection menu again.
