[BUG] Cowork: "Claude Code process exited with code 1" on every prompt after latest update (macOS)

Resolved 💬 4 comments Opened Apr 16, 2026 by dantebbe Closed Apr 17, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

After updating Claude Desktop to the latest version, every prompt submitted in any Cowork project or conversation immediately returns:

"Something went wrong — Claude Code process exited with code 1. You can restart the conversation from an earlier message."

This happens 100% of the time, across all projects and all new conversations. The issue persists after:

  • Fully quitting and relaunching the app
  • Running rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Claude/session-storage and relaunching
  • Downloading a fresh installer from claude.com/download and reinstalling

The Chat tab appears unaffected. Only Cowork is broken.

What Should Happen?

Claude cowork should be able to process prompts.
