Frequent 529 Overloaded errors on Max plan (00/month) — unacceptable service quality

Description

Frequent 529 Overloaded errors during normal usage on the Max plan ($200/month).

529 {"type":"error","error":{"type":"overloaded_error","message":"Overloaded. https://docs.claude.com/en/api/errors"},"request_id":"req_011CZTMB1ZzNN5LMH6hVwn EA"}

Impact

  • Interrupts active coding sessions mid-task
  • Breaks flow and context when working on multi-step implementations
  • Forces users to retry/wait with no ETA or fallback
  • Paying $200/month and still experiencing degraded service

Expected Behavior

As a paying Max plan subscriber, I expect reliable access to the service without frequent overloaded errors. At this price point, capacity planning should ensure consistent availability.

Actual Behavior

529 errors occur repeatedly during regular development sessions, with no warning, no retry mechanism, and no compensation for lost context or time.

Questions for Anthropic

  1. What capacity guarantees does the Max plan provide?
  2. Is there any priority queuing or rate-limit differentiation for Max subscribers vs. free/lower tiers?
  3. Are there plans to improve reliability and reduce 529 errors for paying customers?
  4. Will affected subscribers receive any form of compensation (credits, extended access, etc.)?

Environment

  • Plan: Max ($200/month)
  • Tool: Claude Code CLI
  • Date: 2026-03-27
