Remote Control: Android Claude app opens new chat instead of connecting to session

Description

When using claude remote-control, scanning the QR code with the Claude Android app opens a new standalone chat instead of connecting to the remote session. The same link works correctly when opened in a web browser on the same device — it connects to the remote session as expected.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Run claude remote-control in terminal
  2. Scan the displayed QR code with the phone camera, which opens the Claude Android app
  3. App opens a new chat instead of connecting to the remote terminal session

Expected Behavior

Scanning the QR code in the Claude Android app should connect to the running remote-control session, the same way it does when opening the link in a browser.

Actual Behavior

The Claude Android app opens a brand new chat, not connected to the remote session.

Environment

  • Claude Code version: 2.1.81
  • Device: Pixel 7, Android
  • Claude Android app: latest version (as of 2026-03-23)
  • Authentication: Logged in with the same email on both CLI and mobile app
  • Note: Opening the same remote-control URL in a mobile web browser works correctly — this appears to be specific to the Android app's handling of the link/QR code
