What's Wrong?

This is a problem with Claude general auth — not claude code in specific. But I couldn't find any way to submit a ticket or bug report about your auth.

I launched a Claude Cowork Plugin that is bringing many new users to Claude.

Many of them have problems signing up to a new account, they get stuck on phone verification step.

I tried to create a new account to see what the problem was.

I go the error:

Unable to send verification code to this number. Try a different number or try again later.

Which is a useless error message. I think the problem was that I was reusing a phone number that I had set up on another account. But, the error should say that. I imagine users create an account, then forget about it and then try to create another account with another email and get stuck.

Anyway, I then tried to change the number and I was blocked. Another useless error message saying to try again later — after 1 hour I was still stuck.

There is no way for users to report it so no one fixes it.

What Should Happen?

Useful error messages in the bare minimum. Don't block people for multiple hours after one mistake.

Switching devices or using new numbers doesn't make any difference either.

Same issue. Tried to setup an account to buy Pro plan and it failed to send a validation code to a perfectly valid phone number in Belgium.
Format : +32 474 XX XX XX

I don't get why it's mandatory to validate a phone number for the initial account setup.
I should be able to subscribe without phone number validation.

You're losing money on this...

Edit : tried with my wife phone number (Belgian +32 486 XX XX XX) and it worked on first attempt.

Same here. Spanish phone number that’s over 20 years old from a leading telecommunications provider in Spain. I’ve tried registering it on different days and at different times, but the result is always the same. I use this number on other SMS verification platforms every day without any issues.

Tried to contact support, chatbot tells me to do what I already did and finishes conversation once i ask for human support.
On "How to get to support" page, first step is "Login to your account".
That's ridiculous
Users try to sign in a lot of times with different phone numbers and gets same error, cannot get any help and no one from claude team is aware about it.

I had the same problem. So I tried an old email and realized I had already used the number, which is why I couldn't access it. I had created an account with Claude a year or more ago, so the phone number wasn't "working."

AI agent proposed to contact real person: "Would you like me to connect you with a human agent? " and the next message was: "I'll connect you with one of our human agents now. They'll be able to help you further". Not sure if the connection was real, AI loves to lie about intend ;)

Same issue. Tried to setup an account to buy Pro plan and it failed to send a validation code to a perfectly valid phone number in Belgium. Format : +32 474 XX XX XX I don't get why it's mandatory to validate a phone number for the initial account setup. I should be able to subscribe without phone number validation. You're losing money on this... Edit : tried with my wife phone number (Belgian +32 486 XX XX XX) and it worked on first attempt.

can u confirm if ur number was prepaid, and ur wife's number was postpaid? cause in some threads it is listed that prepaid numbers won't work, just confirming ur case.

I have successfully verified my account in the Vietnam region

The account was blocked and only allows a retry after 12 hours, so please do not keep trying to verify it. Wait for the full 12 hours, then verify using a Vinaphone phone number (I haven't tested this with other carriers yet)

I thought this happens only on sign up.. for me it didn't work and I get the same phone verification error when I try to sign up with a custom email, but I tried now to sign up with another Gmail account from the Google sign up widget, and it worked

Okay, but I, like many of the people reporting the issue, have a corporate license assigned to a corporate Gmail account.
So using a different Gmail account is not an option.

Here's what worked for me: I created a new Gmail account without linking a phone number, then signed up for Claude using that Google account (via Continue with Google). After that, it didn't ask for a phone number and let me in right away. This worked in the iPhone app

I finally got verified. What worked for me:

  1. Waited 12 hours before trying again
  2. Changed SIM settings on my phone, enabled IP tracking (see screenshot for the ones I used)
  3. Entered my number in the format +380 (for Ukraine)

Not sure if the SIM settings actually made a difference, but it might have been a factor.

Man, I was stuck on this exact same error for days. It seems like Claude's fraud detection is aggressively blocking almost all public virtual numbers and VoIPs right now. I finally managed to bypass it by using a private number from Cloud SMS. It went through on the first try. Might be worth a shot if you're still pulling your hair out over this!

Waited the 24 hours recommended time, and it just told me my number is invalid. Really?

Happy to call you from this invalid number and explain how broken this process is. If I signup with an email, you can verify the email, that's good enough. Add 2fa, but SMS is not reliable.

Via CLI I could set up payment - and you can bill me fine enough. That's ironic since as a paying client I can't verify any phone number to allow me to use your web portal.

Stupidly backwards. The need for a phone number is 100% an internal decision that can be reversed just as easy. This is a bad call.

You ironically have AI that can do the change for you to remove the stupid requirement. So step up.

Okay I tried everything.

Different phone numbers, different phones, some android some iOS, desktop. Laptop.

Different emails and didn't work.

Signup using google led to asking for phone number so didn't work either.

Using Wi-Fi, using phone data, I tried everything and nothing works.

Tried the +xx selector then the phone number 0xxxxx, without the 0 with only xxxxx

Wrote the phone number +xx0xxxx with the country selector in the phone field, tried with 00xx0xxx with 00 instead of + and didn't work either.

Choose the country code selector multiple times in case it was not selecting properly and didn't work either.

I tried everything and nothing works.
It's been a week with this issue, and it's really frustrating and annoying and no one from the staff is responding, and the customer support needs you to be logged in!!!!

I’m from Pakistan and was also stuck on phone number verification. I just filled out this form:

Anthropic Phone Verification

If phone verification is blocking you from signing up or joining your team's workspace submit the email address and phone associated with your Claude account below. Anthropic team will manually verify your account so you can get in.

This is a manual process please allow 1–2 business days, and only submit once. Anthropic actively working on a broader fix.

Within 2 working days, my number was automatically verified and I was able to log into my account.

Purpose of this form

_This form is used for manual account verification when phone verification fails._

Normally, Claude requires a phone number to verify accounts and prevent spam or abuse
But sometimes users can’t receive the verification code (common in unsupported countries or number issues)
In those cases, Anthropic provides this form so users can:

  • Submit their email + phone number
  • Request manual review by their team

👉 According to official guidance and developer discussions, if phone verification blocks access, users are asked to submit this form so their account can be processed manually

What happens after submitting

Anthropic reviews your submission manually
They verify your account on their side
Then your account gets approved/unlocked without SMS verification
Usually takes 1–2 business days

Why this form exists (big picture)

Claude enforces phone verification mainly to:

Prevent spam, bots, and fake accounts
Add a layer of identity confirmation
Improve platform security

But since:

  • Some countries aren’t fully supported
  • SMS delivery can fail

I’m unable to verify my phone number when creating my Claude account.
The system does not send the verification code to my number, and I’m stuck at the phone verification step.
I tried multiple times, checked the number format, disabled VPN, and followed all troubleshooting steps, but the issue persists.

Please help activate my account manually or fix the phone verification issue.

Here are my details:

To fix this, I installed the Claude app on mobile, closed all of the windows on desktop for claude, used mobile data instead, and used the phone number on that mobile.

Hi, I’ve been having the same issue, then out of the blue when I tried from the same mobile phone which the Sim number is associated with it works. Then u can login with anyother device after sign up. Try and see. All the best

If phone verification is blocking you: submit your Claude account email via this form. We're processing submissions continuously — most go through within a day, though it can take a little longer. Try signing in again the next day, and once more after that if needed. All submissions received so far have been processed. If you've waited a couple days and still can't get in, it's most likely an email mismatch: you should have gotten a Google Forms confirmation email at the address you entered, and if that never arrived it was probably a typo. Resubmit with the exact email you use to log into Claude. Thanks for your patience while we work on a permanent fix.

The account is bought by my organization, but still facing this issue.

+92 numbers are getting blocked. Have been stuck at this step since 18 March 2026, today is 31 March 2026.
Have tried 3 different numbers, different WIFIs and mobile data. Am on Chrome and have tried incognito as well.

I have filled this form, hoping I get a response soon, ensuring that this issue is resolved.

What I had done is:

  1. Tried until it notify too many attempts
  2. Let it idle for some time
  3. Open F12 developer mode and click on some error to check what's going on
  4. Refresh the page and key in with above phone number format
  5. And the Claude suddenly decide to let me go through next step and send verification code to me

Totally no idea why it suddenly working, I successfully verify on 2.10pm (Malaysia time GMT+8)

I'm so confused. I just want to give Anthropic my money but the phone verification is blocking me from paying. WTF. It asks me to verify my phone but I don't recognize the phone number that's on the account. What happened?! Now I can't verify a phone for a number I don't recognize. It feels like there is a major bug here.

Also, submitting info through a random Google Form doesn't feel very secure to me. What If I'm just sending my info to some rando? Having a form at least sit at a claude.com or anthropic.com would give more confidence.

Edit: Less than 24 hours later, my account is already fixed and I can now pay Anthropic. :D Thanks for this! Please fix the root cause!

I’m having the same problem with a Vietnamese phone number. They’re probably using a cheap CPaaS to verify numbers. It’s hilarious that you’re one of the most powerful AIs in the world, yet you can't fix a phone verification issue.

I don't get why it's mandatory to validate a phone number for the initial account setup.
I should be able to subscribe without phone number validation.

This affected us too.
It's funny how in the AI era, from a flagship company like Anthropic, a phone verification requires manual validation. But hey, no issue about that, they'll sort it out... at least it means humans are still necessary :)

Tried 3 different Ukrainian numbers in different formats (+380, 380, 0, no prefix at all) from different locations (Ukraine, Bulgaria, Slovakia). None of it worked. I saw posts on Reddit describing the same issue from 2024. I can't believe this sort of problem was not hot-fixed on day 1. The accumulated amount of lost money must be insane by this point.

I'm dealing with the same problem, there are alleged instructions here, https://support.claude.com/en/articles/8287232-verifying-your-phone-number but if you follow them you get dumped into an endless circular conversation with a chatbot telling you you need to talk to the chatbot to get the number removed from your account. What it actually says is to "message us" but "us" is the chatbot you're currently talking to which just wanders round in circles without doing anything.

It's actually a pretty good case study for why AI will _not_ take over the world when it can't even handle a basic account signup.

Same here, I've just signed in without any need for the phone number check a day or two after submitting the form so they must have cleared a batch of them recently. This was getting somewhat problematic for me because I'd signed up for a personal account to play around a bit while waiting for the work one to be approved, but the act of signing up for a personal account made it impossible to sign in to the work account because I was using the same phone number. How have other folks done this, do you need to buy a burner phone just to have a personal and work account?

actually, I think the main issue is a poor UX.
The little flag to select the country is not doing anything. If you enter the phone number WITH the country code, it does work.

Good Luck. Hope it works for you too. I mean, I've been trying for 2 weeks (on and off, it detect me as spam already I think). after filling the form and waiting for 1 - 2 days I can finally login. for me, it means that the form is working.

and also you get a copy of your filled form response.

@surbhiijain do you have link in Claude web page that stating to use that Google form? Just want to make sure that Google Form is officially from Claude/Anthropics.

I tried with new phone number, thinking anthropic just block my phone number, throw same error,
Tried with another device completely new and new number still same,
Tried with mobile data still throw same error.

What should i do now?
I accepted an org Pro plan invite, my email is verified i can't move ahead from onboarding.

Update: within 12 hr of filling this form. Working perfectly, no issue at all.

Hi, I'm from Vietnam. I got stuck while verify mobile phone number. I recieved both errors: "Unable to send verification code to this number..." and "too_many_attempts" when I tried to login to the Claude app. I had fill the Arthopic form and waited for 1 day and it works now.
