What's Wrong?
Claude code across all computers after top up (tier 4) refuse to update its balance and keep restricting use. Sort of cache. I am using Claude Code for many months and this is a first time happend.
What Should Happen?
It should work instantly after rebalance.

Tier 4. Work hard. Get credits to zero. Get first notice of low balance. Rebalance. Use again. Message should disappear.

It does not work on any platform. User does not know what to do now. Reseting API Keys on all computers and work is expensive!

getting this right now. first i got payment failed several times, then when i finally managed to pay it doesn't update the balance. the invoice shows up correctly as "Paid" under Invoices. all the failed payments show up as Overdue, for whatever reason

I have the same issue. After a successful top-up, I get this error: "Your credit balance is too low to access the Anthropic API. Please go to Plans & Billing to upgrade or purchase credits."
This is so basic, vibe coding?
You forgot the part from the product spec: and after the user pays for our service, she has to be able to use it.
I found a solution: I had one API key, so I deleted it, and now it works with the key that was created after I bought the credits.

I just ran into more or less this, but logging out and logging back in worked for me.

The last time this happened, it was around 2am my time, and when I went to use Claude Code via api key the next day, it was fine. However, it's now mid-evening my time, and I am chomping at the bit to keep going.....! :(

I checked Claude Code again, and it just started working. That is, it took it about 1-1:30 hours (around 90 mins) to sort itself out. FYI for others with the same issue, try waiting 1-2hrs.
I am still having this problem. I have been locked out for about a week now. Nothing I have tried has unblocked the API.
Same issue here - for anyone else experiencing it, you need to generate a new API key and that new one will work, not sure why API keys get invalidated when it happens, even the auto-top up adding funds doesn't help. My api key stopped working when it dropped to around $6 funded, even though additional reqeuests should have gone through. A dumb work I do in the meantime is setting a few new API keys as fallbacks for retries :/
Looking at the Anthropic status dashboard there was also a bunch of incidents around platform, probably related, unsure if it will always happen when there's outages or incidents around that.

I am running into this issue as well. I updated billing and purchased credits and still get the same error "Credit balance too low · Add funds: https://platform.claude.com/settings/billing" . I will try after 2 hours per previous comment.
Can replicate this issue outside of Claude Code. Have the exact same problem when using an API key in a 3rd party library (rig)

I had the same issue. I just had to type /login and log into the system again. No log out required. Saw my top up immediately.

Experiencing the same thing today. Ongoing context is valuable, and this feels like being financially penalized. Major ball-drop by Anthropic.
I had this problem. Personally, I was in API usage billing (dev account). What I did was to /logout and then login with my user account, check that it worked, it did, and then i re-logged out and logged in again with my dev account. Now it works.
This worked for me.
If you’re using a new account, go into Claude console -> Organization setting -> Billing and make sure you have a credit balance.
Was having the same problem and finally tracked it down - for my scenario at least.
Go to Settings > Usage > Extra Usage
If you have a spending limit set and you've reached it, it will not let you use the credits you've purchased. I increased my spending limit to reflect my current balance and it worked. I logged out and back in, not sure if it was necessary, but it worked immediately.
I guess this is doing what it was designed to do. But begs the question, why do they let you purchase additional credits if your spending max has been met?
Same problem, my balance was -0.59 topped up 24 and my balance now is -0.44.. doesn't make any sense.
