[BUG] Claude Cowork for Windows — hangs/freezes during execution with no recovery mechanism

Resolved 💬 3 comments Opened Feb 16, 2026 by jelrod27 Closed Feb 19, 2026

Bug Description
Claude Cowork on Windows frequently gets stuck during execution. Either it continues thinking for 10+ minutes with no output, or the prompt remains highlighted with no action taken. There is no recovery mechanism — users must force-quit and restart.

Environment

  • Platform: Windows (WinGet install)
  • Claude Cowork (not standard Claude Code terminal sessions)
  • Issue occurs with single or multiple Cowork sessions

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start Claude Cowork on Windows
  2. Begin a session and submit a prompt
  3. Observe hanging behavior — either indefinite thinking or prompt highlighted with no response

Expected Behavior
Cowork should either complete the task, show an error, or provide a timeout/cancel option.

Actual Behavior
Complete freeze with no recovery path. New prompts replace the stuck one but also hang.
