[BUG] In-app updater does not deliver Cowork-enabled build on Windows — reports "latest version" incorrectly

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Feb 12, 2026 by gimmerain4days Closed Feb 26, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Note: Filing here as there is no dedicated Claude Desktop repository. This issue relates to the desktop app's update mechanism, not Claude Code specifically.

The Claude Desktop app for Windows was updated on ~Feb 10, 2026 to include Cowork, and a new installer is available for download from the website. However, using "Check for Updates" within the app reports that version 1.1.2685 is the latest version. This build does not include Cowork.

What Should Happen?

"Check for Updates" should detect that a newer Cowork-enabled build is available and offer to install it.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install Claude Desktop on Windows (version 1.1.2685 or earlier, prior to Cowork support)
  2. Open the app and go to Help > Check for Updates
  3. App reports "You are running the latest version" — no update is offered
  4. Visit the Claude download page (claude.ai/download) and note that a newer Cowork-enabled installer is available
  5. Attempting to download and run the new installer is not possible on managed/enterprise machines due to IT sideloading restrictions

Additional Information

There is no workaround for users on managed machines. Users who can sideload apps can download the new installer directly, but this is not an option in enterprise environments.
