Description

Claude Code sessions frequently freeze and become unresponsive on v2.1.39. This happens multiple times per day with no clear or consistent trigger. When it occurs, the CLI stops responding mid-conversation and must be killed manually.

Environment

  • Claude Code version: 2.1.39
  • OS: macOS 26.3 (Build 25D125)
  • Architecture: arm64 (Apple Silicon)
  • Node.js: v22.21.0

Reproduction

  • Frequency: Multiple times per day
  • Trigger: No consistent pattern — happens during normal usage (file edits, bash commands, conversation)
  • Behavior: Session hangs mid-response or mid-tool-execution. No error output. Process must be force-killed.

Expected behavior

Sessions should remain responsive throughout normal usage without freezing.

Additional context

  • MCP servers are in use (Chrome automation) but crashes don't appear correlated with MCP activity specifically
  • Happens across both short and long sessions
