$ claude --version
1.0.31 (Claude Code)

Which one of these is true?

  • CLAUDE.local.md is deprecated
There are 2 instances of the string deprecated on this Claude Code documentation page in reference to CLAUDE.local.md
  • CLAUDE.local.md is not deprecated
Type /memory and see that it is a part of claude code.

I also want CLAUDE.local.md support for:

Claude will also discover CLAUDE.md nested in subtrees under your current working directory. Instead of loading them at launch, they are only included when Claude reads files in those subtrees.

I want to have notes for large codebase that are loaded up depending if claude visits those folders.

I agree with @sfc-gh-mochen . Especially when moving to monorepo codebases having CLAUDE.local.md inside subdirs (not just project root) is important, as there is otherwise probably not a good personal customization.
