[BUG] Adding image to message first breaks "@" context when confirming file selection

Resolved 💬 4 comments Opened Jan 23, 2026 by jinsley8 Closed Mar 13, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

If I take a screenshot on MacOS, and drag it into Claude Code message to add to context, then I continue to type my message, when I "@" a file or folder to add to context and press enter to confirm the file it submits the message instead of letting me continue typing.

Also, when it submits the message it only uses part of the "@" pathname cna doesn't include the file in the context submitted.

What Should Happen?

"@" file/folder context works fine if I don't add an image before I use it.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Start new session
  2. CMD+SHIFT+4 to take a screenshot on MacOS and drag the image into the Claude chat in your terminal.
  3. Type some words then "@" a file, press enter to confirm the file that shows in the preview.
  4. This submits the message at this point instead of continuing with the message.
