[BUG] Claude Code for VS Code and LaTeX Workshop causing extension host to crash

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Jan 21, 2026 by robertmassman Closed Jan 26, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Claude loses connection to the host when LaTeX workshop extension is enabled. I have noticed in general Claude Code for VS Code will randomly freeze causing me to need to reload the vs code window. but almost 100% of the time when LaTeX workshop extension is enabled Claude Code for VS Code can not establish a connection. I noticed when I click the orange splat to create a new window and LaTeX workshop extension is enabled there is a message in the lower left that says "extension host terminated" this happens every time I click the orange splat. Please note this all started to happen about 4 days ago after the most recent update.

What Should Happen?

This was all working fine before the weekend 1/15/26
