[Bug] Memory leak in Claude Code causes excessive RAM consumption

Bug Description
I have had to force close several claude code terminals because they hogged ridiculous amounts of memory and were about to crash my laptop (M4 Pro, 24GB). Problems started at 50GB sessions running up to over 108GB and about to crash. This happened 3 times today.
