[BUG] Claude Chrome Extension - unable to Authorize

Resolved 💬 19 comments Opened Jan 12, 2026 by rgamage Closed Jun 12, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Trying to install and use Claude extension in Chrome, version 1.0.38 (latest), on two different machines and different profiles, all fail during Login step. Login proceeds through Google OATH2 successfully, but then when it redirects to this claude authorize page:
https://claude.ai/oauth/authorize?client_id=xxxx
When I click the Authorize button, nothing happens.

I have tried adding a-api.anthropic.com to the manifest.json file, CSP section, but still have the same behavior.

The Edge extension seems to work fine.

I'm using the latest version of Chrome, tested on Windows 10 and Windows 11, same behavior. One is a work machine one is a home machine, both on Xfinity home internet.

I've tried with a google-login chrome profile, and with a different profile with no login, with the same result.

What Should Happen?

Expected behavior is, after clicking Authorize, a side pane should open on the right side of the browser, and a new tab group is created in the browser.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install claude extension in a chrome browser
  2. Click on extension to activate it
  3. Follow login for Claude (use google OATH2 login)
  4. Click Authorize on the last web page after google auth
  5. Nothing further happens - sidebar should open and tab group should be created

any update ?

stuaxo · 4 months ago

I had this bug for a bit + it seems to be back now.

Have Anthropic just not configured their web servers properly for crossdomain calls ?

Very similar issue here on a corporate account with a Mac using both Chrome and Safari. When I try to activate Claude Code from my terminal a window opens, prompts me for email auth which I provide, then the "Authorize" button is available but I'm unable to click it.
I have no issues logging into the console web UI.

I am also hitting this issue. I tried disabling CSP with this extension. The errors are gone, but I still see a spinner forever. But not totally clear to me if the extension is actually all that's needed to disable the protection. But no console errors show up or even network request failures. But still can't activate my claude code.

I have a suspicion that this is only happening when I try to use google sign in option (and it only happens with my work email). Signing up with email directly gets further into the onboarding flow.

getting same error while /login in win11 console, and claude.ai chat suggested to pay twice for API_KEY from platform.claude.com

Just installed Claude desktop on Win 10 and getting this error when trying to setup the extension.

Found this workaround works for me!

Still unable to authorize as of March 2026. Desktop app on macOS, Team plan. Tried both personal org and team org — neither works. See #38845 for current state.

Me pasa lo mismo, intenté con una sesión limpia de Chrome pero nada. sigue igual

One of my colleagues told me that this bug has been fixed in the latest update. Check it and let us know.

agalatan · 2 months ago

Not sure if this actually fixed it, but I loosened the extension's restrictions: I enabled Allow access to file URLs and in Site settings I set Insecure content: Allowed. Seems like it was able to authorize.

stuaxo · 2 months ago

I haven't seen the bug recurring in the last few weeks.

agalatan · 2 months ago

It is definitely still happening.

Closing for now — inactive for too long. Please open a new issue if this is still relevant.
