Alt+M mode cycling completely broken in v2.1.3 - cannot switch between any modes

Resolved 💬 5 comments Opened Jan 11, 2026 by jamcam-me Closed Feb 4, 2026

Environment:

  • Claude Code v2.1.3
  • Windows 11
  • VS Code integrated terminal

Expected Behavior:
Alt+M cycles through all three modes: Default → Agent (Edit) → Plan → Default

Actual Behavior:
Alt+M does nothing. Keyboard shortcut is completely unresponsive.

Reproduction Steps:

  1. Start Claude Code v2.1.3
  2. Press Alt+M - nothing happens (cannot enter Agent mode)
  3. Press Alt+M again - nothing happens (cannot enter Plan mode)
  4. If you enter a mode manually (e.g., /plan), Alt+M still does nothing
  5. No keyboard method to cycle between modes

Regression:

  • v2.1.2: Alt+M cycles through Default ↔ Agent ↔ Plan correctly
  • v2.1.3: Alt+M completely non-functional

Impact:

  • Cannot enter Agent (Edit) mode via keyboard
  • Cannot enter Plan mode via keyboard
  • Cannot exit any mode via keyboard once entered manually
  • Mode switching requires slash commands only
