[BUG] Claude Code does not respect Anthropic retention policy setting

Resolved 💬 4 comments Opened Jan 10, 2026 by Nintorac Closed Feb 27, 2026

Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

I am getting daily requests for Anthropic to use my data, with all the usual anti-patterns to try and get me to say yes. A very convenient bug...

What Should Happen?

Anthropic should respect the fact that I don't want to help train there model for free and not bug me to update this setting..

Anthropic should consider paying the developers if they want this kind of valuable data to improve their models. Musicians get lifelong royalties..what do you offer?

Additional Information

The spate of recent anti-consumer changes Anthropic have pushed out lately (this issue, disabling claude for better cli tools) are doing nothing for my brand loyalty, wouldn't it be better to make developers love you, rather than attempting to trap them in your ecosystem?
