[BUG] Pressing `esc` on a Web Search tool run leads to corrupted state

Environment

• Platform: Anthropic API (Max sub)
• Claude CLI version: 1.0.16
• Operating System: macOS 15.5
• Terminal: Ghostty + fish

Bug Description

When pressing <kbd>esc</kbd>on a Web Search tool run may lead to corrupted state:

That can't be recovered with claude -c, it inherits this corrupted state.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Ask for a web search
2. Wait for a couple of seconds
3. <kbd> esc </kbd>
4. Talk to Claude again immediately

Can reproduce 100% of times, if sequence is followed.
