Section/Topic

Usage Limits - Weekly and Monthly Limits

Current Documentation

Current Documentation

The documentation currently mentions:

  • Pro plan includes 200k tokens every 5 hours
  • Average costs (~$6/day per developer)
  • Rate limits (TPM/RPM) recommendations

However, it does NOT explain:

  • Weekly usage limit caps
  • How weekly limits reset (rolling window vs fixed date)
  • Whether monthly limits exist beyond weekly limits

What's Wrong or Missing?

Hi Claude Code team,

I'm a Pro plan user and I love the product - I've been doing intensive work on WordPress plugin development with
great results. However, I hit weekly usage limits during my first project and I'm trying to understand how these
limits work to better plan my usage.

What's documented

  • Pro plan: 200k tokens every 5 hours ✓
  • Average costs and rate limits (TPM/RPM) ✓

What's NOT documented (but experienced)

  • Weekly usage limits exist (I hit them during intensive development)
  • How these weekly limits reset
  • Whether monthly limits exist beyond weekly limits

Specific questions

  1. What is the exact weekly token limit for Pro plan users?
  2. How does the weekly limit reset?
  • Is it a rolling 7-day window?
  • Does it reset on a fixed day (e.g., Monday 00:00 UTC)?
  • Does it reset 7 days after first usage in the period?
  1. Are there additional monthly limits beyond the weekly limits?

My usage pattern

My workflow involves intensive bursts during active projects (using limits heavily for several days until project
completion), followed by long pauses (sometimes a month without usage beyond free tier). Understanding the reset
mechanism would help me plan project timelines better.

Why this matters

This information would help users like me:

  • Plan project timelines appropriately
  • Understand if/when limits will be available again
  • Make informed decisions about usage intensity

Would it be possible to add this information to the official documentation? Even a simple explanation in the /cost
command output or the docs would be incredibly helpful.

Thanks for your great work on Claude Code!

Suggested Improvement

The documentation should include a dedicated section explaining:

1. Weekly Usage Limits

  • Exact weekly token limit for Pro plan users
  • Clear explanation of how this limit works alongside the 5-hour token budget

2. Limit Reset Mechanism

  • Does the weekly limit reset on a rolling 7-day window?
  • Does it reset on a fixed day (e.g., Monday 00:00 UTC)?
  • Or does it reset 7 days after first usage in the period?

3. Monthly Limits

  • Clarify whether additional monthly limits exist beyond weekly limits
  • If they exist, specify the amount and reset behavior

4. Real-world Impact
This information is critical for users with intensive usage patterns (e.g., completing projects in focused bursts)
to plan their work accordingly.

Suggested location: Add a new section in the /cost documentation or create a dedicated "Usage Limits" page
explaining all rate limits, token budgets, and time-based restrictions.

Impact

Medium - Makes feature difficult to understand
