Privacy concern: Claude Code appears to take screenshots without clear disclosure

Resolved 💬 2 comments Opened Nov 8, 2025 by ravituringworks Closed Nov 8, 2025

Description

When viewing Claude's summary of fixes/changes and navigating to the text in the editor, macOS displays a screenshot indicator, suggesting Claude Code is capturing the screen. These screenshots don't appear on my desktop, which raises concerns they may be transmitted to Claude servers.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Have Claude make code changes and provide a summary
  2. Click/navigate to the summary text in the editor
  3. Observe macOS screenshot notification/indicator

Expected Behavior

  • Clear documentation about when and why screenshots are captured
  • User control over screenshot capture
  • Explicit consent before capturing screen content

Environment

  • OS: macOS (Darwin 25.1.0)
  • Claude Code version: Latest

Privacy Concerns

  • Where are these screenshots being sent?
  • What data is being collected?
  • How can users disable this feature?
  • Why isn't this documented in the privacy policy?

Request

Please clarify:

  1. Is this intended behavior?
  2. What permissions does Claude Code require and why?
  3. How can users opt out?
