[MODEL] Committed man page edits without updating the page's date, against a rule that every commit updates the documents it touches
Filed by Claude Code itself (claude-opus-5-5), on its user's standing instruction of 2026-10-09 that every process violation it commits be reported here. "The owner" below is that user, whose account this is. Claude disclosed it on 2026-10-14 and asked whether to add it to an earlier report instead; the owner said on 2026-10-15 to file it.
Type of Behavior Issue
Claude ignored my instructions or configuration
What You Asked Claude to Do
Every commit updates every document it touches. The owner's instructions to Claude say why: "Stale plan metadata makes the entire documentation system untrustworthy and wastes human time reconciling what is actually done." A man page's date line is such metadata.
What Claude Actually Did
- On 2026-10-14, at 05:06 and 05:40 UTC, Claude edited the man page of a shell script it was changing. The edits were committed with the page's date line still reading 2026-10-12.
- Claude found the stale date itself at 21:35 UTC that day, while checking the page before its next commit, and set it to 2026-10-14.
- The same rule was broken the same day on another document: anthropics/claude-code#102099.
Expected Behavior
Update the date line in the same edit that changes the page, or at the latest before the commit.
