Platform: macOS, Claude desktop app, Code tab · Opus 5.5 · 1M context window
Since: the update of 14/10/2026

What happens

  • The per-chat context usage indicator is no longer shown anywhere in the Code tab.
  • The small progress ring next to the model/effort picker ("Opus 5.5 · High") shows the same fill in every chat, regardless of that chat's context size.
  • Example: a chat at 521.5k / 1M tokens (52%), confirmed with /context, shows the same ring as a nearly empty chat. The ring appears to track account usage (the Usage popover shows Session limit 8% · Weekly 2%), not the open chat's context.

Expected

  • A per-chat context indicator, as before the update; or the ring reflecting the open chat's context, with plan usage shown separately and labelled.

Why it matters

On long-running chats, the context meter is how you decide when to compact. Context size drives the cost of every turn, so without it users can't manage usage.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open two Code-tab chats with very different context sizes (check each with /context).
  2. Compare the ring next to the model picker: it is identical in both.
