[BUG] Desktop Code tab (2.37337.1): mod AbovePrompt band is hidden while the next-step box is shown
Environment
- Claude Desktop for Windows 2.37337.1.0 (Microsoft Store), Code tab, local session
- Claude Code 2.1.295 (bundled), model claude-opus-5-5
- Windows 11
- A function-hook mod, loaded with
CLAUDE_CODE_PLUGIN_DIRS, that draws a one-line status band throughui.renderfor{ component: "AbovePrompt" }
What happens
The mod's band shows while a turn runs. When the turn ends with the new next-step box (wrap_up with an ask), the band disappears. The app stops asking for it: the mod counts its ui.render calls for AbovePrompt, and the count drops to 0 while the box is on screen. hasSurvey is never true, so the mod is not yielding to a survey.
Clicking the box's × brings the band back at once. A blocking box (blocked: true) has no ×, so the band stays hidden until the user answers the box.
This started with 2.37337.1 (installed 2026-10-14). On 2.31226.1 the band stayed visible while the chat was idle.
| State | Band on screen | ui.render calls for AbovePrompt per 30 s |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Turn running | yes | 9 to 22 |
| Turn ended, next-step box shown | no | 0 (3 in the first window after the turn ended) |
| Box closed with × | yes | (redraws resume) |
Steps to reproduce
- Load any mod that draws a tree for
ui.render{ component: "AbovePrompt" }on the desktop surface. - Send a message in a Code tab session. The band is visible during the turn.
- Let the turn end with a next-step box that has a question and buttons. The band disappears.
- Click × on the box. The band comes back.
Why it matters
- The band is hidden at the moment the user reads the turn's result, which is when a status band is most useful.
- A mod that treats "the band was drawn" as "this chat is on screen" loses that signal. Our mod closes a chat after 2 hours with no activity, and it can now close a chat the user has open.
- There is no fallback.
PromptHintis never raised on desktop (0 calls in a probe), and no app setting turns the next-step box off.
Expected
The band and the next-step box show together, for example the box above the band, or the band kept above the prompt input. If the app must hide the band, it could pass a prop such as hasNextStep to AbovePrompt and let the mod choose.
Related: #101256 and #101748 are other cases where the desktop app does not ask a mod to draw the band.
