Environment

  • Claude desktop app 2.31226.1, Code tab, session running on a remote Linux host over SSH
  • Claude Code on the host: 2.1.295 (ccd-cli, shipped by the app); standalone CLI 2.1.296
  • Host OS: Linux 6.8.0-146-generic
  • Model: claude-opus-5-5

Expected
A greyed-out suggested next prompt in the message box after a reply, accepted with Tab.

Actual
No suggestion appears after any reply. The session was restarted/resumed after checking the setting; still nothing over several consecutive turns, including turns that ended with a direct yes/no question.

What was ruled out on the host

  • App setting "Prompt suggestions" is On.
  • ~/.claude/settings.json on the host has no promptSuggestionEnabled: false and no env block.
  • CLAUDE_CODE_ENABLE_PROMPT_SUGGESTION is not set in the session environment.
  • Cached feature flags: tengu_prompt_suggestion = true, tengu_chomp_inflection = true.
  • No back-off: promptSuggestionUnusedStreak is absent from ~/.claude.json.
  • Not plan mode, no rate-limit warning, no pending permission requests.
  • Last assistant messages of the affected turns had small cache writes (338–2,600 tokens), so the 10k "cache_cold" gate should not apply.
  • remote-server.log for the session shows no errors.

Could not verify from the host

  • Whether the app sends promptSuggestions: true in the initialize request for SSH sessions.
  • Whether the app sent set_prompt_suggestions_paused and never un-paused.
  • The suppression reason per turn (logged to telemetry only).

Question
Are prompt suggestions supported in SSH sessions in the desktop app? If yes, this looks like the flag not reaching the remote CLI or a stuck pause.
