Problem
I review Slides artifacts in the Claude desktop app (Code tab) while Claude edits them in the same session. Two things get in the way:
- Every publish steals the view. When Claude publishes a new version of a deck, the app brings that artifact forward in the pane, even though Claude did not call
open. If I am reading another deck (or my own copy of the same deck) in parallel, my view is replaced. With several rounds of edits this happens again and again, and I lose my place. - An updated deck reopens on the slide I left. After an update I want to review the deck from the beginning, but it restores the last slide I was on. There is no way for me, or for Claude, to say "open this version at slide 1".
Proposed solution
- A user setting such as "Don't switch to artifacts when Claude updates them". Show a small "Updated — open" notice instead of taking over the pane.
- A publish option for Claude, for example
auto_open: "never"on updates, so Claude can respect a user who asked not to be interrupted. - After a new version is published, open the deck at the first slide, or offer a "Start from slide 1" button. A link parameter (e.g.
?slide=1or#cover) would also work and could be shared.
Why it matters
When Claude does many rounds of edits on a deck, the author reviews in parallel. Taking over the pane on every publish breaks that flow, and the restored slide position hides what changed on earlier slides.
Environment
Claude desktop app, Code tab; Claude Code 2.1.296; Slides artifact type.
