[Bug] iOS app sessions on desktop-served Remote Control hang; "That mode isn't available right now"
Bug Description
Claude iOS app: Code sessions started on a Mac served by the Claude desktop setting "Let your phone and claude.ai start sessions here" never respond. The phone shows the banner "That mode isn't available right now" and the turn spins indefinitely.
Setup: macOS, Claude desktop app (Code tab) with "Let your phone and claude.ai start sessions here" ON and "Keep this computer awake for Remote Control" ON; repo folders listed. Claude Code 2.1.296. Max plan. User settings have permissions defaultMode "auto". No claude remote-control server running.
Steps: iPhone Claude app > Code > + New session > environment chip > Remote control > [Mac] · [repo] > send "What's your working directory? Make no changes."
Result: session is created and appears in the Mac desktop app sidebar, but never answers; iPhone shows "That mode isn't available right now". Reproduced 3 times, including after quitting and reopening the desktop app. Once the Mac app showed "Remote Control disconnected - Claude Code on [Mac] is offline" for the session.
Controls that work: (1) the same request from claude.ai/code in Safari on the same iPhone answers immediately from the Mac folder; (2) the same request from claude.ai/code in Chrome on a Windows PC answers immediately; (3) the iPhone app works when the folder is served by "claude remote-control --spawn same-dir" in a terminal instead of the desktop setting. Same home Wi-Fi in all cases.
Suspicion (unverified): the iOS app requests a permission mode (our default is auto) that desktop-app-served sessions don't accept.
