Problem Statement

Area: Artifacts (claude.ai artifacts used from Claude Code / desktop app)

Problem
Artifact comments support @mentions, but mentioned people get no notification. Neither does the owner when someone comments. Teammates review a shared artifact, tag the author with a question, and nothing tells the author the question is there. Feedback sits unanswered until someone happens to reopen the page. That makes artifacts unreliable as a team review surface, even though the commenting itself, and Claude acting on comments, works well.

Request

  1. Notifications for:
  • an @mention of me in a comment or reply
  • a new comment or reply on an artifact I own or edit
  • a reply in a thread I started or replied to
  • a thread being resolved or reopened, including resolved by Claude
  1. Delivery channels I choose:
  • Slack (DM from a Claude app, with the comment text and a deep link)
  • email
  • in-app
  1. A notifications center in Claude that brings every artifact together in one place:
  • unread, mentioned-me and needs-reply filters
  • one click jumps straight into the artifact, scrolled to the comment thread and its anchored text
  • mark read, reply and resolve from the inbox
  1. Per-artifact controls: follow or mute an artifact, plus digest frequency (instant, daily or off).

Use Case Example

  1. I publish a pre-read artifact for my org's weekly product forum and share the link with about 10 reviewers across product, design and engineering.
  2. Reviewers leave comments and @mention me with questions ("@Daniel is this a real risk?").
  3. Today, I only find those comments by reopening the artifact and scanning it. A question can sit for days, and reviewers assume I've ignored it.
  4. With notifications, I'd get a Slack DM for each mention with a deep link straight to the thread. I'd answer or ask Claude to apply the change, and have a single inbox showing what still needs my reply across all my artifacts.

Alternative Solutions

  • Manually re-checking each shared artifact for new comments. This doesn't scale past one or two documents.
  • Asking reviewers to also ping me on Slack, which duplicates the feedback outside the artifact and loses the anchored context.
  • Asking Claude in a session to list a page's comments. That only works when I already know to check, and it isn't a notification.

Google Docs, Figma and Notion all notify on @mentions and comments, by email and in-app, with deep links to the thread. That's the baseline teams expect from a shared document.

Proposed Solution

Add notifications for artifact comments, with a central inbox.

  1. Notification triggers
  • Someone @mentions me in a comment or reply
  • Someone comments on an artifact I own or can edit
  • Someone replies in a thread I started or replied in
  • A thread I'm part of is resolved or reopened, including by Claude
  1. Delivery channels, chosen per user
  • Slack: a DM from the Claude app with the comment text, who wrote it, and a deep link
  • Email: the same content, with the option of a daily digest
  • In-app: a badge and an entry in the notifications center
  1. Notifications center in Claude
  • One inbox across all artifacts I own, edit or follow
  • Filters: unread, mentioned me, needs my reply
  • Clicking an item opens the artifact scrolled to the thread, with its anchored text highlighted
  • Reply, resolve or send to Claude directly from the inbox
  1. Controls
  • Follow or mute per artifact
  • Frequency: instant, daily digest or off, per channel

Alternative Solutions

I've tried manually re-checking each shared artifact for new comments. This doesn't scale past one or two documents, and questions sit unanswered for days.

Currently I work around this by asking reviewers to also ping me on Slack when they comment. That duplicates the feedback outside the artifact and loses the anchored context. I also sometimes ask Claude in a session to list a page's comments, but that only works when I already know to check, so it isn't a notification.

Other tools solve this by treating comment notifications as table stakes. Google Docs, Figma and Notion all notify on @mentions and replies by email and in-app, with deep links straight to the thread. Figma and Notion also offer a consolidated inbox and Slack integration.

Use Case Example

Example scenario:

  1. I'm a product manager. I published a pre-read for my org's weekly product forum as a Claude artifact and shared the link with about 10 reviewers across product, design and engineering.
  2. Reviewers leave comments on specific sections and @mention me with questions, for example "@Daniel why is this a risk?" or "this is vague, can you rephrase?"
  3. Today I only find those comments by reopening the artifact and scanning the page. Nothing tells me someone tagged me, so a question can sit for days and the reviewer assumes I ignored it.
  4. With this feature, I'd get a Slack DM for each @mention with the comment text and a deep link that opens the artifact at that thread. I'd reply there, or send it to Claude to apply the change, and resolve it.
  5. A notifications center would show me everything that still needs a reply across all my artifacts in one place. This would save me time, keep the review loop inside the artifact instead of scattered across Slack, and make artifacts a reliable tool for team reviews.

Additional Context

This is related to my feature request for a Slides artifact type with presentation mode and team collaboration (#100074). Both come from the same goal: making artifacts a real team collaboration surface instead of a single-author output.

Comments on artifacts already work very well. In one afternoon, I and my reviewers left about 30 comment threads on a single document, and Claude acted on each one directly: edited the content, replied in the thread and resolved it. That loop is better than anything in Google Docs. The missing piece is notifications. Without them, the loop depends on everyone remembering to come back and check, and teams fall back to Slack and email.

What I've observed:

  • @mentioning a person in a comment doesn't notify them.
  • The owner isn't notified of new comments from reviewers.
  • Resolved threads are only visible by reopening the artifact.

Priority, if this is phased: @mention notifications in Slack and email first, then owner notifications for new comments, then the consolidated inbox.
