[BUG] Cowork (Windows): "Save" greyed out on every skill proposal card, account-wide, including brand-new skills

Environment

  • Claude desktop app (Cowork), Windows 11 build 26200
  • Claude Max, personal account
  • First seen 9 Oct 2026; consistent

What happens
When Claude offers a skill for review (the propose_skills proposal card), the Save button is greyed out and cannot be clicked. No error or tooltip is shown.

Steps to reproduce

  1. In any Cowork conversation, ask Claude to create a skill.
  2. The proposal card appears with Save disabled.

Scope tested

  • Every conversation tried, including a cloud session linked to the computer
  • Brand-new skills, not only updates to existing skills
  • A minimal test skill (valid kebab-case name, one-line description, about 10 lines)

Expected
Save is clickable and installs the skill.

Workaround
Zip the skill folder and upload it at Customize > Skills > + > Create skill > Upload a skill. This works, so the skill content is valid.

Checked

  • status.claude.com: no incident 8-9 Oct
  • Support ticket filed and escalated to a human agent
  • Related but different: #98536 (save_skill returns "Turn ended", installs nothing), #93599 (only SKILL.md can be saved since 10 Sep), #95235 (.skill file card Save does nothing)

Update (9 Oct 2026): desktop-only, not account-wide.

The same skill cards work in the Claude iOS app on the same account:

  • Updating an existing skill from its proposal card: the Update button is live and the update installed.
  • Saving a brand-new test skill from its proposal card: Save is live and the skill installed.

So the greyed-out Save/Update button happens only in the Claude desktop app (Cowork) on Windows 11 build 26200. Correcting "account-wide" in the title: the account is fine; the desktop client is the problem.

Workaround for anyone else hitting this: open the same conversation in the phone app and save the skill there.

Update (10 Oct 2026): resolved. Save on skill proposal cards works again in the Windows desktop app (Cowork), for both new skills and updates. Nothing changed on my side, so it was presumably fixed by an app or server update overnight on 9 to 10 October. Closing.

Reopening: this recurred the same day I closed it, so the fault is intermittent rather than fixed.

Timeline on 10 Oct 2026 (London), Windows 11 build 26200, Claude desktop app (Cowork), Claude Max personal account:

  • ~10:31 - Save worked. I completed a real save of a skill from a proposal card in the desktop app, which is why I closed this issue.
  • - ~11:12 - Update was greyed out again on a new proposal card in the same desktop app, in a different conversation. No error, no tooltip, same as the original report.
  • - - Same card saved fine from the iOS app a minute later, so the proposal itself was valid.

So the earlier "resolved" comment was premature. The desktop-only scope from my 9 Oct comment still holds, and the iOS app remains the workaround. What is new is that the desktop app can save successfully and then stop again within about forty minutes, with no app restart, no update and no change at my end in between. That suggests something server-side or session-scoped rather than a fixed client bug.

Happy to collect anything that would help pin it down, for example whether a failing card recovers after reopening the conversation.

Correction to my previous comment: please disregard the "intermittent" framing and the forty-minute window. I have now tested the faulting action itself, and the fault has not cleared at any point.

Test, 10 Oct 2026 at about 11:43 London, one skill update offered on a proposal card. Windows desktop app (Cowork): Update greyed out, exactly as originally reported. iOS app, same card, a minute later: saved first time.

What misled me: the save I completed at about 10:31 and described as a skill save was in fact a scheduled task save. Task saves have always worked in the desktop app. There has been no successful skill save on the Windows desktop app since this issue was filed on 9 Oct.

Accurate state: continuously broken on the Windows desktop app since 9 Oct 2026, desktop only, iOS unaffected and in use as the workaround. Nothing server-side or session-scoped is implied by my earlier comment, which I withdraw.
