What were you trying to do?
I wanted Claude (claude.ai chat) to read and summarize files from a private repository in our GitHub organization.
Setup:
- GitHub integration in Settings > Connectors: Connected
- Claude GitHub App: installed on the organization (approved by the org admin)
- "Check repository status" for the target repo: OK ("Claude Code cloud sessions will work with <org>/<repo>")
Steps:
- Open a new chat
- "+" > "Add from GitHub", select <org>/<repo> (branch: main), click "Add repository"
- Send "Summarize the README"
What happened instead?
Clicking "Add repository" only inserts the repo URL into the message box. The dialog says Claude will read the repo through the GitHub connector when needed, but no GitHub tools are available to Claude in the chat session.
Claude falls back to generic web fetch on the github.com URL, which fails (blocked / private repo), and it reports that no GitHub connector is available. Reproduced in a new chat as well.
Other connectors (Slack, Notion, Google Drive, Gmail, Google Calendar, Atlassian, Figma) work normally in the same account. Claude Code cloud sessions are reported as working for the same repo.
