Desktop: phone-started chats can never use bypass permissions or the home folder, even when the user opts in

Claude Desktop 2.19675.0, Claude Code 2.1.288, macOS, iOS app.

With Settings > Claude Code > "Use this computer from your phone and claude.ai" turned on, I can start Desktop chats from the iOS app. Those chats can never run in bypass permissions. The block is hard-coded in the app: "that session was started from a Remote Control client, which never runs in bypass permissions".

On 3 Oct 2026 a chat I started from my phone came up in Accept edits. Every command then sent an approval pop-up to my phone, and the iOS app gives me no way to choose bypass.

It's also inconsistent: claude remote-control --permission-mode bypassPermissions in a terminal does allow bypass for phone-started sessions.

The same feature also refuses my home folder. remote-control.log shows it dropped as a trust key ("home \"/Users/<me>\""), so I can't start a phone chat in the folder where much of my work runs.

I run bypass on purpose, on my own machine, for my own work. How much risk I take with my own data should be my decision, the same on phone or Mac.

Requests:

  1. Let the user opt in to bypass for phone-started chats.
  2. Offer the permission mode choice, including bypass, in the iOS app.
  3. Let the user serve their home folder to the phone if they choose.
