Description

In the Claude desktop app (Code tab), a local project folder and a project folder on an SSH remote that share the same folder name get merged under one group in the sidebar. Because they're grouped by name only, the remote project, which was added later, is hard to use: opening a new session from that group starts it in the local folder, not the remote one.

Related: the SSH remote's folders also don't appear under recent folders when you start a new SSH session, so there's no easy way to get back to the remote folder.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Have a local project folder, e.g. ~/projects/Foo, and start some Code sessions in it.
  2. Add an SSH remote environment that has a folder with the same name, e.g. ~/projects/Foo on the remote host, and start a session there.
  3. Look at the sidebar or chat list: sessions from both folders appear under a single Foo group.
  4. Try to start a new session for the remote Foo from that group, or from the recent-folders list.

Expected behavior

  • Projects are identified by environment/host plus path, not by folder name alone. Local Foo and remote-host:Foo show up as separate groups, or at least carry a local/remote indicator.
  • Starting a session from the remote project's group opens it on the remote host.
  • When you start a new SSH session, that remote's recently used folders are listed as recent folders.

Actual behavior

  • Both folders are merged into one group with the same name.
  • Starting a session from the group jumps to the local folder, so the remote project can't easily be reopened.
  • No recent folders are listed for the SSH environment when you start an SSH session, so the remote path has to be found or typed again each time.

Environment

  • Claude desktop: 2.9939.4 (Linux, claude-desktop .deb, amd64)
  • Claude Code CLI: 2.1.288
  • OS: Linux (local); remote reached via the desktop app's SSH environment
