[BUG] Linux: Claude Desktop 2.9939.4 Code tab falls back to web view — "Local · Desktop only" greyed out (regression, fixed by downgrading to 2.7032.0)
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
- [x] This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
- [x] I am using the latest version of Claude Code
What's Wrong?
On Linux, the Code tab in the official Claude Desktop app (installed from Anthropic's apt repo) renders the claude.ai/code web surface instead of the native local session UI:
- The environment picker shows Local greyed out with the label "Desktop only", even though I'm running the desktop app.
- Only Cloud and Remote Control are selectable.
- Starting a task forces the GitHub / cloud environment flow ("Create your first cloud environment").
- Previous local sessions are not listed in the sidebar.
A clean reinstall (apt remove, re-adding the official repo, apt install claude-desktop) did not fix it.
This looks like the same issue as #93251 (Windows) and possibly #95498, so it isn't Windows-specific.
What Should Happen?
In the desktop app, the Code tab should show the native local UI: "Local" should be selectable in the environment picker, I should be able to pick a local folder, and my previous local sessions should be listed in the sidebar, as in version 2.7032.0. It should never show the "Desktop only" label or force the GitHub/cloud environment setup when running inside Claude Desktop.
