What's Wrong?

Fix (tested and confirmed working)

Note: this fix requires disabling Claude Code's fullscreen TUI mode.
Text paste over SSH does not work correctly while "tui": "fullscreen"
is set — this is part of the root cause, not just an unrelated setting.

On the remote Linux host:

  1. Check current version and config location:

which claude
claude --version
find /home/YOUR_USER/.claude -maxdepth 2 -type f | sort

  1. Inspect the current config:

sed -n '1,140p' /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/keybindings.json
sed -n '1,120p' /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/settings.json

  1. Back up both files before making changes:

cp /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/keybindings.json /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/keybindings.json.before-ctrlv-fix-20260930
cp /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/settings.json /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/settings.json.before-tui-paste-fix-20260930

  1. Remove the ctrl+v → image paste binding:

perl -0pi -e 's/"ctrl\+v": "chat:imagePaste"/"ctrl+v": null/' /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/keybindings.json

  1. Edit settings.json to remove the fullscreen TUI setting — change:

{ "tui": "fullscreen" }
to:
{}

  1. Validate both JSON files are still well-formed:

python3 -m json.tool /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/keybindings.json
python3 -m json.tool /home/YOUR_USER/.claude/settings.json

  1. Run diagnostics:

claude doctor

  1. Fully quit and relaunch the claude CLI for the changes to take effect.

Result: Ctrl+V no longer triggers the image-paste message. For actual
text paste over SSH, use a terminal-level shortcut instead:
Ctrl+Shift+V, Shift+Insert, or right-click paste — these now work
correctly in the non-fullscreen TUI mode.

What Should Happen?

Plain text copied on the Windows client should paste normally into the
Claude Code prompt when connected over SSH, the same way it does in the
surrounding shell.

Error Messages/Logs

No image found in clipboard. You're SSH'd; try scp?

Steps to Reproduce

  1. From a Windows client, connect to a remote Linux host via SSH:

ssh user@remote-linux-host

  1. On the remote host, run: claude
  1. On the Windows client, copy some plain text to the clipboard

(e.g. select text in Notepad, Ctrl+C)

  1. In the Claude Code prompt, press Ctrl+V

Expected: the copied text is pasted into the prompt.
Actual: "No image found in clipboard. You're SSH'd; try scp?" is
displayed and nothing is pasted.

Root cause

Two local config settings on the remote host cause Claude Code to
intercept Ctrl+V for image-paste handling instead of passing it through
to normal terminal paste — see Fix section above for details.

Additional Information

Confirmed workaround/fix: On the remote host, edit ~/.claude/keybindings.json
to set "ctrl+v": null (removing the "ctrl+v": "chat:imagePaste" binding),
and remove "tui": "fullscreen" from ~/.claude/settings.json. Restart the
claude CLI. After this, Ctrl+Shift+V, Shift+Insert, and right-click paste
work correctly for plain text over SSH.
