What happens now (Claude Code 2.1.286, Windows):
- In tap mode, the second tap always submits the prompt when the transcript is 3 words or more. No setting turns this off.
voice.autoSubmitonly applies to hold mode, so tap mode users can't review or edit a dictated prompt before it is sent. - The first tap only starts recording when the prompt input is empty. If I type part of a message and then want to dictate the rest, the tap does nothing, so I have to either type everything or dictate everything. Hold mode already supports dictating into existing text, so this is only missing from tap mode.
What I'd like:
- Make
voice.autoSubmitapply to tap mode too, or add a tap-mode equivalent, sofalseinserts the transcript and waits for Enter. - Let the first tap start recording when the prompt has text, inserting the transcript at the cursor.
Why: I dictate almost every message. Holding a key for a long message is tiring, so I use tap mode, but then every message goes out before I can fix a misheard word or add a detail. Esc and Ctrl+C throw the whole transcript away. The only workaround is to interrupt Claude after the message is sent and bring it back with the Up arrow.
Related: #89636 (tap mode's silence and max-duration timers also auto-submit).
