[Bug] `/resume` hides sessions started from subdirectory of same repository
Bug Description
/resume hides sessions started from a subdirectory of the same repo
A session started from a subfolder of a repo (<repo>/src/main/conf) does not appear in the /resume picker
when Claude Code is launched from the repo root, even though it's the same repository and the same git branch.
Sessions are stored by the exact folder they started in, so the session can only be found with Ctrl+A
("show all projects") or by cd-ing back into the original subfolder. Linking the session .jsonl into the
repo-root project folder under ~/.claude/projects/ did not make it appear either.
Steps to Reproduce
cd <repo>/src/main/conf && claude- Work in the session, name it with
/rename, then exit. cd <repo> && claude- Run
/resume. The named session is not listed.
Expected Behavior
Sessions from the same repository (same git root / branch) are listed in /resume wherever inside the repo
they were started.
Actual Behavior
Only sessions started from the exact current folder are listed. The named session is missing.
Additional Context
- The session moved between many folders during its lifetime (repo root,
src/main/conf,src/main/conf/CR1/...,
/private/tmp) but is tied only to the folder it started in.
- The session file is ~77 MB. All sessions that do appear are ≤ 2.8 MB, so size may also affect listing (not confirmed).
- Workaround: Ctrl+A in the picker, or
cd <start-folder> && claude --resume <session-id>.
