[MODEL] Safety classifier false positive stops defensive encryption planning for user data in my own Android app
Preflight Checklist
- [x] I have searched existing issues for similar behavior reports (related: #97072, #97743)
- [x] This report does NOT contain sensitive information (API keys, passwords, etc.)
Type of Behavior Issue
Safety classifier false positive: a response was stopped during legitimate defensive security work.
What You Asked Claude to Do
I am the developer of an Android calendar and journal app (Biblical Calendar, PyBuilt Technologies LLC). I use Claude Code to protect my users' own data inside my own app:
- the personal journal and a private notes "safe" are encrypted on the phone;
- backups are encrypted before they go to the user's own Google Drive;
- keys stay in the Android Keystore;
- wrong PIN attempts are limited.
This is standard defensive security, the same kind that password managers and banking apps use. There is no malware, no exploit, no bypassing of anyone's protection, and no access to other people's data.
After a first stop (feedback ID dc896651-96e9-4244-a4f0-b8723103afe9), Anthropic support advised me to work in small, explicit steps. I did exactly that, with a written plan, tests and a Git checkpoint for every step. Steps S0–S2 finished normally and passed their tests:
- S0: project and test setup;
- S1: password hashing with Argon2id (RFC 9106);
- S2: Android Keystore key handling.
Then I asked Claude to continue with the next step.
What Claude Actually Did
Claude's reply that started the next step was stopped by the safety classifier. That step was only a written plan for the encrypted file format that stores the user's own journal, safe and settings.
Claude did not retry or rephrase the stopped content; it reported exactly which operation was stopped and waited, as I had asked.
Expected Behavior
Normal help with planning defensive encryption of the user's own data in my own app, as in the previous steps.
Files Affected
None. Nothing of the stopped step was written. The earlier steps are intact and committed.
Permission Mode
Auto mode.
Can You Reproduce This?
It happened twice in the same project on 2026-09-29, both times at the planning of the data-protection design.
