What were you trying to do?

In a fresh ordinary Claude Chat on claude.ai, I selected + → Add from GitHub, chose a private repository and its main branch, and clicked Add repository. I then asked Claude to read information from the attached repository.

The GitHub account connector shows as connected, the Claude GitHub App has access to the repository, and Claude Code cloud sessions can access the same repository successfully.

What happened instead?

Claude inserted the repository as a blue GitHub URL, but when I sent the message it treated the attachment as an ordinary public web link. It used an unauthenticated web fetch, which failed because the repository is private, instead of reading the repository through the authenticated GitHub connector.

I disconnected and reconnected the GitHub account connector, opened a fresh Chat, and repeated the test. The same failure occurred. Claude Code continues to access the repository correctly, so the problem appears limited to ordinary Chat’s use of the GitHub connector.
