[GitHub integration] Can't add GitHub repo to claude.ai chats

Summary
"Add from GitHub" in claude.ai chat links a repository, but Claude cannot read it.
No GitHub connector is available in the chat, so only the repo URL reaches the model.

Environment

• Surface: claude.ai web, macOS (2024 MacBook Air)
• Account: personal GitHub account fernandoagune
• Repository: fernandoagune/FernAIOS (private), branch main
• Date observed: 28 September 2026 (also in earlier chats)

Setup (confirmed in Settings > Connectors > GitHub Integration)

• GitHub account: connected
• Claude GitHub App: installed on fernandoagune (Personal), badge shows "Cloud sessions only"
• Repository status check: passes ("Claude Code cloud sessions can work in fernandoagune/FernAIOS")

Steps to reproduce

1. Open a new chat on claude.ai.
2. Select + > Add from GitHub.
3. Select fernandoagune/FernAIOS, branch main, then Add repository.
4. Send a message asking Claude to read a file from the repo (e.g. the root CLAUDE.md).

Impact
The linked-repo feature in chat is unusable on this account, even though the integration,
app installation and repository status check all pass.

Suspected cause
The app installation appears scoped to Claude Code cloud sessions only, and no chat-side
GitHub connector is provisioned for the account, despite the Add from GitHub dialog
depending on one.

What were you trying to do?

Expected
The dialog says Claude reads the repo "through the GitHub connector when it needs it".
Claude should be able to read files from the linked repository.

What happened instead?

Actual

• The dialog shows an empty file tree. Adding the repository only inserts the URL

https://github.com/fernandoagune/FernAIOS/tree/main into the message.

• Claude reports no GitHub tools are available to it. It falls back to fetching the URL,

which fails because the repo is private.

• "+" > Connectors lists only Claude Docs and Kontext. No GitHub connector appears,

and there is no GitHub entry to enable.
