Summary

On macOS 27, the system warns that the Claude desktop app "includes a component that will not open in macOS 28". The cause is an Intel-only (x86_64) node-pty prebuild shipped inside the app bundle on Apple Silicon.

Environment

  • Claude desktop app: 2.9939.2
  • Claude Code CLI: 2.1.271 (native arm64, not affected)
  • macOS 27.0 (26A5421a), Apple Silicon (arm64)

Details

The bundle ships both node-pty prebuilds:

Claude.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/node-pty/prebuilds/
├── darwin-arm64/
└── darwin-x64/
    ├── pty.node # x86_64 only
    └── spawn-helper # x86_64 only

lipo -archs shows that these are the only non-arm64 Mach-O files in the bundle. The arm64 prebuild is what actually runs, but macOS still flags the whole app because it contains Intel code. macOS 27 is the last release with full Rosetta support.

Expected

The Apple Silicon build should not include the darwin-x64 prebuilds. Removing them, or shipping a universal binary, would stop the warning. Users can't remove them locally without breaking the app's code signature.
