Problem Statement

What happened: In the desktop app's Code tab, I changed the working folder of an existing session from one project to an unrelated one. The same conversation continued, with all of the previous project's history still showing.

What I expected: Chats kept separate per folder. Switching to a different folder should start a new session, or at least ask: "Start a new chat in this folder, or move this chat here?"

Why it matters: I use separate folders for separate topics. Mixing them in one chat is confusing, and it's easy to lose track of which chat belongs to which project.

Proposed Solution

When the user changes a session's working folder to a different project, show a prompt:

  • "Start a new chat in this folder" (default): opens a fresh session tied to the new folder and leaves the current chat attached to the old one.
  • "Move this chat to the new folder": today's behavior, for when the user really does want to continue the same conversation.

Also, in the sidebar, group or filter chats by folder, so each project's chats are easy to find and aren't mixed together.
