Preflight Checklist

  • [x] I have searched existing requests and this feature hasn't been requested yet
  • [x] This is a single feature request (not multiple features)

Problem Statement

## Description
When using Claude Code with Remote Control on the mobile app (iOS/Android),
the prompt suggestions (e.g., "Try 'create a util logging.py that...'")
that normally appear in the terminal interface are not shown in the mobile app's input field.

## Current Behavior

  • On the desktop terminal: prompt suggestions appear as placeholder text in the input field
  • On the mobile app (via Remote Control): the input field has no suggestion

## Expected Behavior
Prompt suggestions should be displayed in the mobile app's input field,
providing the same contextual guidance available in the terminal.

## Why This Matters
These suggestions are helpful for discovering available commands and getting
contextual ideas based on the current project state. They should be available
across all interfaces (desktop terminal, web, and mobile).

## Environment

  • Claude Code version: [your version, e.g., v2.1.283]
  • Mobile platform: iOS/Android
  • Remote Control: Yes

Proposed Solution

Proposed Solution

Extend the Remote Control protocol to transmit the prompt suggestion text
from the local Claude Code session to the mobile/web interface, and display
it as a placeholder in the input field.

Implementation

  1. Include promptSuggestion field in Remote Control session state updates
  2. Display as input placeholder in mobile/web UI (non-intrusive)
  3. Use existing prompt suggestion generation logic from terminal

Benefits

  • Consistent UX across all interfaces
  • Helps users discover contextual commands
  • Non-breaking change

I exclusively use RC sessions - even from my desktop app (so that I can pick up work on any surface client). Really missing this feature there. RC can't even see the suggestions to pass through manually, so maybe MVP would be storing the suggested prompt somewhere RC can access it and read it? At least then I could ask it to always end with a suggested prompt to copy and paste.

+1, on Android. I'm disabled and typing takes real effort, so prompt suggestions matter a lot to me. They already show on my phone in cloud sessions; it would be great to have them over Remote Control too.

Adding some data points from a Windows 11 setup (Claude Desktop 2.31226.1, Claude Code 2.1.295, Desktop local session connected to Remote Control), in case it helps scope the fix.

What I was trying to do: see the prompt suggestion on my phone for a Desktop local session, the same way it already works for cloud sessions since 2.1.288.

What I checked, and what I found:

  • The suggestion is only ever displayed in the Desktop composer. It is not written to the session transcript (~/.claude/projects/**/*.jsonl contains no prompt_suggestion records across 100+ sessions), not in the debug logs, and no hook event carries it.
  • The Desktop child process is started with --output-format stream-json --input-format stream-json ... but without --prompt-suggestions, so I assume the suggestion is requested over the control protocol and lives only in the renderer.
  • In the Desktop UI the suggestion is rendered as placeholder-style ghost text in the ProseMirror composer. It is not exposed through the accessibility tree at all (UI Automation shows an empty value/help text at the same instant a screenshot shows the suggestion), so even assistive tools cannot read it.

So today there is no supported way for a connected device to obtain the suggestion for a local session. The proposal in the original post (add the suggestion to the Remote Control session state so the mobile app can show it as placeholder text, as it already does for cloud sessions) would close the gap cleanly. A secondary benefit: if the suggestion were also in the accessibility tree, screen-reader users could use it on the desktop too.

Happy to test a build.
