Summary

The Claude desktop app's iOS Simulator panel stays black even though the simulator is running and the video stream is healthy. The native Simulator app shows the device fine.

Environment

  • Claude desktop 2.7032.0
  • macOS 15.7.7, Intel Core i5-8257U, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 645 (Metal 3), 8 GB RAM
  • Xcode 26.3; simulator iPhone 16 (iOS 18.4), booted and on the Home Screen

Steps

  1. Boot a simulator and call control -> attach.
  2. Open the live simulator panel.

Expected: the live device screen.
Actual: a black panel. Re-attach, detach and attach, and a full app restart don't help.

What I verified

  • Headless screenshot returns the correct screen, and tap, swipe, text and launch all work.
  • The native Simulator window shows the same device correctly.
  • main.log shows the stream is healthy: attached ios iPhone 16 ... 1179x2556, ios h264 stream, and Video stats ... 60.0 fps ... 0 dropped, 0 write failures, 0 encode errors. So frames leave the helper fine and the failure appears to be in the panel's decode or paint.
  • Tried launching Claude with --disable-accelerated-video-decode and --disable-gpu: still black.
  • Log warnings: Frame push exceeded budget (16.7 ms) and helper video log over 120 lines/min.
  • An earlier device with a corrupted data partition also showed black, but the fresh iPhone 16 does too.
