Claude Desktop (Windows) blocks system sleep indefinitely via EXECUTION power request, even when idle/minimized to tray
Environment: Windows 11, Claude Desktop (Electron-based)
Current behavior: powercfg /requests shows a permanent EXECUTION power request held by claude.exe, even when the app is minimized to the system tray with no active conversation, task, or generation running. This blocks Windows' automatic idle-based Sleep/Hibernate entirely, requiring users to either quit the app completely or use powercfg /requestsoverride as a workaround.
Expected behavior: The EXECUTION power request should only be held while Claude is actively performing work on behalf of the user (e.g., generating a response, running an agentic/background task, an active voice session). When idle — including when only the tray icon is present — no sleep-prevention request should be held.
Reference: Same root cause was reported and fixed for the community Linux package: aaddrick/claude-desktop-debian#605 ("sleep inhibitor should only be held transiently during active work, not registered when idle").
