What's Wrong?

Platform: Claude Desktop for Mac
App version: Claude 2.7032.0 (6c468a) 2026-09-22T05:53:19.000Z
macOS version: 26.6.2 Tahoe]
Mac model/chip: Mac Mini M4

What's wrong:
When I have an incognito chat open in the Claude desktop app and my Mac goes to sleep, the app reloads/refreshes the session when I wake the Mac. Because incognito chats aren't saved to history and can't be reopened, the entire conversation is permanently lost. This happens consistently.

What Should Happen?

The incognito chat should remain open after waking from sleep, as long as I haven't closed it. At minimum, the app should not reload the window while an incognito chat is open, or it should warn me before discarding it.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Claude Desktop on macOS Tahoe.
  2. Start an incognito chat (ghost icon) and exchange a few messages.
  3. Let the Mac go to sleep (idle sleep or closing the lid).
  4. Wake the Mac and return to the Claude app.
  5. The app has refreshed and the incognito chat is gone.

Additional Information

Possibly related issues:

  • anthropics/claude-code #23092 (Desktop app quits after ~5 min idle via SessionIdleManager)
  • anthropics/claude-code #54428 (Desktop app silently restarted, session lost)
  • anthropics/claude-code #64887 (session lost on relaunch with no warning)

Workaround: preventing sleep with caffeinate -d avoids the issue.
