Problem Statement

The Dispatch view in the Claude desktop app is missing two input affordances that exist elsewhere in the app.

  1. No voice input. Dictation is available in regular chat sessions and in code sessions, but the Dispatch view has no microphone control. This is the inverse of where it would help most: Dispatch is designed for directing a machine you are not sitting at, often from a phone. In that situation typing is the bottleneck, and it is exactly the situation where the input tends to be long and unpolished.
  1. No visible feedback control. I could not find a thumbs up/down or any other feedback affordance in the Dispatch view. From a phone there is therefore no way to report anything at all — the only route is to switch to a computer and open GitHub, which is what I am doing to file this. The people most affected are the ones using Dispatch as intended.

Proposed Solution

  • Add the same dictation control to the Dispatch composer that the chat and code composers already have, with the same behavior (live transcript, editable before sending).
  • Add a feedback control to Dispatch responses, consistent with the rest of the app, reachable on a small screen.

Alternative Solutions

  • Operating-system dictation can type into the field, but it is not an equivalent: it handles short, clean phrases reasonably and degrades on longer, messier input, and it does not give the in-app transcript-and-edit step.
  • Switching to a computer to type or to leave feedback defeats the purpose of Dispatch.

Priority

High - Significant impact on productivity

Feature Category

Other (desktop app UI)

Use Case Example

  1. I start a long-running task on my desktop machine and leave.
  2. From my phone, I open Dispatch to steer it: correct an assumption, redirect the work, answer a question it asked.
  3. That correction is two or three sentences of unstructured thinking — fast to say, slow to thumb-type.
  4. With dictation in the Dispatch composer I would speak it, glance at the transcript, and send.
  5. If something in that exchange goes wrong, a feedback control in the same view would let me report it on the spot instead of remembering it until I am back at a computer.

Additional Context

  • Environment: Claude desktop app on macOS, with an iPhone as the second device. No screenshots attached.
  • Related, but not the same:
  • #94039 asks for hands-free voice input for Remote Control sessions on mobile; this request is about the Dispatch view in the desktop app and does not ask for auto-send.
  • #94536 reports a desktop surface that opens without dictation available; same underlying pattern of dictation missing from a specific surface, different surface and filed as a bug.
