[BUG] Persistent "API Error: Connection dropped (ECONNRESET)" messages

What's Wrong?

inside VS code claude code, I keep getting "API Error: Connection dropped (ECONNRESET)" messages. I can restart VS Code and open a new session, but that only buys me maybe 5-10 minutes until I see the error again.

What Should Happen?

My Claude code session should not fail.

Steps to Reproduce

Even running a "status?" command doesn't work once I first encounter the error in a session.
