Duplicate of #94360, which reports the same failure with more detail. Closing in favour of that one.

What happens

The iOS Simulator panel stops updating. The overlay reads FPS:0 and the panel is frozen — no new frames, and taps sent through the simulator tools do not reach the device.

The simulator itself is fine: xcrun simctl list devices still reports the device as Booted. It is the panel's video stream that has died, not the device.

Recovering from it

Quitting and reopening the desktop app is the only fix found. These do not work:

  • detach then attach — attach reports the session is already attached and refuses to renegotiate, because detach does not clear the state attach checks
  • launch on a fresh build — installs and launches, but the panel keeps showing the dead stream
  • Waiting

detach/attach looks like the obvious recovery and silently does nothing, so there is no way back from inside a session.

Environment

  • macOS 26.6.2
  • Xcode 27.0
  • iOS 27.0 simulator runtime
