What happens
The iOS Simulator panel in the Code tab shows "Claude Code iOS Simulator is restarting after a crash. Try again in 1s" and never renders a device. The helper process crashes with SIGABRT every time the panel starts streaming, for every device tried: iPhone 18 Pro Max (iOS 27.0) and iPhone 17 Pro (iOS 26.x). 21 crash reports in ~10 minutes (~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/claude-ios-sim-*.ips). Tap/swipe/launch actions sent through the MCP control tool still reach the device; only attach streaming and screenshot/inspect fail ("Claude Code iOS Simulator is restarting after a crash").
The same panel worked on this Mac earlier the same day on macOS 26 with Xcode 26; the only change was the macOS 27 + Xcode 27 upgrade.
Crash (from the .ips, attached)
EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT), "abort() called", uncaught NSException thrown from-[__NSPlaceholderArray initWithObjects:count:] (nil object in an array literal) inside Metal's binary-archive bookkeeping while CoreImage builds its Metal context:

CoreImage CI::MetalContext::init(id<MTLCommandQueue>, char const*)So it is the helper's CIContext (Metal-backed) initialization that dies on macOS 27; the device or runtime does not matter.
Steps to reproduce
- macOS 27.0, Xcode 27.0, any booted simulator.
- Claude for Mac, Code tab, open the iOS Simulator panel (or call the iOS Simulator MCP
controltool withattach). - Panel shows "restarting after a crash"; a new claude-ios-sim .ips appears each attempt.
Expected
Panel streams the simulator as it did on macOS 26.
Notes
- Xcode 27 no longer ships Developer/Applications/Simulator.app, so there is no standalone Simulator window to fall back to on this OS; the Claude panel is the only live view.
- Workaround in use:
xcrun simctl io <udid> screenshot/recordVideoplus the MCP tap/swipe actions, which keep working.
