VS Code extension: Claude Code occupies two tabs (chat + account/usage panel), unlike other AI extensions
Description
In the VS Code extension's AI chat side panel, most AI extensions (Codex, Antigravity, etc.) occupy a single tab. However, Claude Code occupies two separate tabs — one for the chat interface, and one for the "ACCOUNT & USAGE" panel (email, session/weekly usage, session manager).
For users who run multiple AI chat extensions side by side, this means Claude Code takes up twice the tab space compared to other extensions, making the tab bar more crowded and harder to navigate.
Suggestion
Consider moving the account/usage information out of a dedicated always-present tab, and into something that doesn't consume tab space, e.g.:
- A gear/settings icon or dropdown within the existing chat tab
- A command palette entry
- A modal/popover triggered on demand
This would let Claude Code behave consistently with other extensions in the same panel (one tab per extension) and be friendlier to users running multiple AI assistants concurrently.
