Summary
Users across Pro, Max x5, and Max x20 subscription tiers are reporting that weekly usage limits are being depleted in 1-2 days of normal use, making paid subscriptions effectively unusable for 5-6 days per week.
Impact
- Pro users: Hitting weekly limits in 1-2 days
- Max x5 users: No meaningful improvement over Pro
- Max x20 users: Still hitting limits quickly despite $200/month subscription
- Users report cancelling subscriptions and switching to competitors
Detailed Issues
1. Weekly Limits Reached in 1-2 Days
Multiple users report exhausting their entire weekly quota within the first 1-2 days:
- "i used it a little firday a little on saturday and maybe 10 minutes this morning and i hit the weekly limit already"
- "I burn through the whole damn quota in like ONE OR TWO DAYS"
- "hitting weekly limits as a pro user in a day and a half"
- "The weekly limit is now reached in one day"
2. Higher Tiers Not Providing Expected Value
Users who upgraded to higher tiers report no meaningful improvement:
- Max x5: "5% used from ONE message on a 5X Max account"
- Max x20: "I upgraded from Max x5 just yesterday, but the weekly limit is still a problem. The rate at which my Opus 4.1 usage limit depletes is no different from Max x5"
- Max x20: "$100 Max is the new PRO- PRO was just a trial"
3. "Bait and Switch" Concerns
Users feel misled by subscription changes:
- "This feels like I've been bait and switched TWICE now"
- "Whether you call it bait and switch, predatory pricing, or consumer deception, it's just plain unfair"
- "I'm literally paying for a service I can't use"
4. Opacity in Limit Resets
- Reset times reportedly change: "they postpone the reset time silently after a week. My weekly budget should be reset at Wed 10pm. Yet after resetting, the next reset time becomes Thu 11:59am"
5. Professional Use Cases Blocked
- Coding, creative writing, and data extraction workflows are being interrupted mid-project
- "5 hour limit is okay, you can plan around it... Cutting off usage mid work-week is like losing your top developer"
- "6 days of production a month is not worth your subscription"
User Sentiment
- Multiple users reporting subscription cancellations
- Switching to competitors (ChatGPT, Gemini, open source models)
- Comparisons to ChatGPT Plus: "On chatgpt plus i NEVER had to worry about hitting a limit"
Use Cases Affected
- Software development/coding
- Creative writing
- PDF data extraction
- General professional tasks
- Research and analysis
Requested Changes
- Remove or significantly increase weekly limits - Daily limits may be acceptable, but weekly limits compound the problem
- Make higher tiers meaningful - Max x20 at $200/month should provide substantially more capacity
- Transparency - Clear, consistent information about limits and reset times
- Usage meter accuracy - Better visibility into consumption rates
Business Impact
Users explicitly stating:
- "Canceled my subscription yesterday"
- "I just cancelled my plan, looking for an altnertaive"
- "I'll be going back to the API after this subscription ends"
- "Just downgraded from Max X20 to Max X5, not worth it paying more"
Date Range
Complaints escalating since Claude 4.5 release (early October 2025)
Priority
CRITICAL - Directly impacting subscription retention and revenue

Absolutely! hitting Weekly limit after 4 days, having hit daily limit only ONCE.
4 days of CLAUDE usage in MAX Plan is unreasonable. can't stop
Started hitting my Max x5 (~$100/month, 3099 SEK) limit on Friday.
Friday: First "weekly limit" warning appeared
Weekend: Completely blocked despite minimal usage
Monday morning: Limits mysteriously cleared after
/logout+/loginin Claude CodeMonday before noon: Hit the limit AGAIN after only ~2 hours of coding
This is making a $100/month subscription practically unusable. The quota consumption rate doesn't match what Max x5 should provide, and there's zero transparency on what's actually consuming the quota or when resets truly occur.

Disclaimer: The 2.3 seconds figure is totally for fun — don’t actually race your F1 against Claude Code Pro!
i am having the same issue, with the max plan... 2 days and it was like gone for the weekly limit..
It appears somewhere around version 2.0.???, Claude Code started eagerly compressing context, long before context limits were reached. I suspect this overly-eager context compression is the root cause of faster Opus consumption. Has anyone figured out which version of Claude Code introduced this cost regression, so we can pin to the previous version? See #9538
KNOWN GOOD: 2.0.0
KNOWN BAD: 2.0.15
Also hitting this regression, haven't come close to weekly limit before. I suspect what @fritzo suggests should be investigated.
+1
+1 I'm experiencing the same issue as an honest paying user who has never shared my
account or violated ToS.
The weekly limits punish ALL legitimate customers instead of targeting only actual
abusers (account sharers, resellers).
Anthropic should implement intelligent detection systems:
Blanket restrictions are unfair to paying customers. Please reconsider this
approach.
Iam a max x20 tiers and i will move on if they did'nt correct that price point!! as soon as i got my nvidia DGX workstation.... I go Fully local on my own! and they will get no more of my money.
Something is wrong, my week was reset at 4 PM today, and it is already at 6%, less than 3.5 hours into it, and not heavy use:
<img width="629" height="455" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/0b1863d6-a767-4106-8956-27c59e12d1c9" />
I am not using sub agents, just the main agent.
so far, the PRO plan is useless to me. I'm glad I did only one month of pro subscription because I did not know of the existence of a weekly usage limits; I was already annoyed by the 5-hour timer thing, now this.... for sure I won't renew my subscription.
yeah, i got a 20x plan... i dont even know how i bypassed the 5 hour timer... but my weekly limit was hit in 3 days...
They'll probably offer a free version soon after limiting customers.
+1 experiencing identical issue
Max 5x: depleted in 3 days (Thu-Sat)
Max 20x: 50% gone in 2 days (Sun-Mon), 5% remaining now
Expected: 4x improvement = ~12 days usage
Reality: ~2x improvement = ~5 days usage
Support confirms they don't publish token limits and can't explain the discrepancy. Forced to reduce work on $200/mo plan. This is unacceptable.
gemini 3.0 is coming soon, i hope they can fix this... i really like claude
The conversations get compressed constantly but you are still charged / exhaust tokens as if it isn't compressing the conversation.
It is going to completely change the way I use the tool, now I'll have to be very careful how much I paste into it from output, seems even 100 lines of debug output would ruin my limits.
I was using it for commercial work, but then also some hobby game projects. It really cannot handle game development well, the commerce stuff is all easy - not very abstract, but whenever you give it an actually hard problem it sucks.
It will only affect "5% of customers", absolute jokers.
noticing similar issue in claude website interface. either this is an intentional decision to save costs or there's a bug causing usage to skyrocket.
on a larger note though, Anthropic seems to charge a premium for Claude and I'm not sure why. on the API it costs $90/mTok i/o. Compare that to Gemini 2.5 pro, a similarly performant model, which costs $11.25 for the same usage.
I find it really hard to believe that Anthropic's prompting justifies an 8x cost.
I had some issues. Earlier this month, I paid for the October subscription. I used it for a few days to tweak my code — about three days in total — but I had to wait four days before I could actually use it. I immediately canceled my Pro plan and switched to Cursor AI.
They're all price-fixing together so you can't escape.
This tool has become almost unusable for big tasks. I have a pro subscription, and up until a month ago, I could use it without hitting the weekly limit. Now, I hit the limit in just two days, making it really hard to get any work done with this tool. I'm considering looking for an alternative.
I'm Max 20x User, same within two day its reached 60%
<img width="642" height="356" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b85c3b47-e821-4d6e-a185-7ad43bbd4edc" />
the weekly limit on Claude makes it feel as if we’re not treated like paid users, hopefully, Anthropic will reconsider and fix this soon
Claude Code attracted users with fake advertisements. It feels like betrayal.
I've subscribed MAX 5x (100$) and was promised 140-280 hours of access to Sonnet 4, and 15-35 hours of Opus 4.
In less than <24 hours of coding time with one single terminal, I've reached almost 50% of weekly usage!
I've 0% Opus Model Usage and already receiving the "Approaching Opus usage limit" message.
<img width="1312" height="962" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/225db986-83a4-47b4-9144-a48c5465125f" />
Another challenge:
I clearly specified Claude not to makes changes unless I ask it to. It runs ahead, burns up credits based on its decision and just uses git to undo it and says sorry. This maybe a different issue, but it does have to do with credits being burned up quicker.
I am on the 5x Max plan ($100 USD/monthly) and am using Claude Code and have been hitting my weekly limits in 2 to 3 days consistently since these changes. Claude Code is effectively no longer usable after this change.
Claude Max 200$.
I've noticed that 10% of session usage limit(sonnet 4.5) is equal 2% of weekly limit. It means that I can fully use just 5 session per week... srsly? I am almost never hit over 60% usage per 5h session, but gonna hit weekly limit in 4-5 days... Anthropic, why? I work 10 hours a day and use about 60% of my 5-hour session limit twice a day. This means I'll completely use up my weekly limit in about 4 days, meaning my subscription will be idle 40% of the time. Increase the weekly limit to 7-8 full sessions, otherwise this is absurd and I'll have to switch to Codex to cover my needs. Maybe you could give me a choice then? Some kind of slider where I could choose to reduce the 5-hour limits by 40% and increase the weekly ones by 40%? This is a great way to distribute your weekly workload. Btw, with 100$ plan i hit 95% limit with the same usage, but with 200$ i hit 60% - seems like its not 4x
Looks like they may have improved this on some level. I'm still running codex pro in parallel with Claude 20x Max to keep me from hitting limits, but I have noticed some slow down in my usage limits being swallowed up
My current usage increased just from restarting the Claude Code tool. I tried restarting it several times, running /usage each time without doing anything else, then exiting. After about 5 restarts, my usage had gone up by 1%. I decided to count how many restarts it would take to hit 1% usage, and... the usage dropped back to its previous value.
I think there's a simple reason Anthropic doesn't publish details about "how many tokens are in the 5-hour limit" - the limits are calculated dynamically for each user at a level "slightly below their typical usage." It's a soft push toward the more expensive subscription.
just 1 (ONE) message in https://claude.ai/ chat increase Pro plan usage on 2%. So, Pro plans basically can have 50 messages per 5 hour.
I just upgraded and now I literally have a meter counting down to monday next week at 9am and it's only day 1 of paying $200 / month! I will seriously cancel if it goes like this all month, this is unusable, and I personally feel like where before I was on some sort of flow, now I'm worried about using it... why would I be worried about using something I'm spending $200 / months to use More? it makes no sense.
Canceled my subscription today, Claude.Ai / Anthropic seriously need to get their sh*t together. Just imagine if OpenAI or Google pulled something like that off!
I'm in the same situation. I reached my weekly limit in just three days on the $200 plan. It's unfortunate. I never used to reach the limit before, even though my usage hasn't changed. It seems like Anthropic is cheating us. Either they used to sell us something cheaper that was actually more expensive, or they're now trying to sell us less for the same price.
Was told by Claude yesterday my rate limit was hit and would reset by 6pm yesterday (after chatting for half an hour about a work-related issue; no coding, no big files or anything). This morning, I was expecting the limt had been reset yesterday, but my FIRST REQUEST this moning IMMEDIATELY led to a rate limit warning, saying it's will be reset at 5pm (six hours later). This is unacceptable. If this continues much longer, I have no choice but to cancel my subscription. Claude used to be my favorite LLM, but it appears to be going the "Cory Doctorow" way lately.
I just signed up for the Pro plan yesterday and used it for about two hours, but I already hit 22% of my weekly limit. This Pro plan is ridiculous. I can’t afford to upgrade to Max, so I canceled my subscription as soon as I saw how limited it was.
<img width="909" height="194" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/ef045177-4714-4507-896f-831c18830bc5" />
Last week, my weekly reset was on Wednesday. So when it said "appraching weekly limit" on Tuesday night, I didn't pay it much mind. Then I hit the limit, and now my weekly reset is on Friday? What 9-day week is this?
Cancelling my subscription.
Yes, I've noticed the same thing - last month I was spending $200 on the MAX 20x plan and it was sufficient, but this month using only Claude 4.5, I've already spent an additional $513 on extra usage through the API! It appears that API rates are 4-6 times higher than the MAX 20x plan! Considering that 90% of my time is spent on open source projects, this is honestly just highway robbery! It's one thing to donate my free time, but spending $700 a month on Open Source work is clearly excessive!
You should see the mental gymnastics they do on refunds. They have no way to downgrade your plan, so you have to cancel, pay another $20 for smallest plan (for the same period) and they refund you $20. They must have the same accountant as Trump.
Okay, starting to get a little crazy. I have the max 20x plan and the week just started 2 hours ago. I sent two prompts from the Web from my phone and I'm already at 2%... Wtf... !Screenshot_20251022-190705.png
maybe i'm misunderstanding something, but doesn't your screenshot say it's been in use for 2 hours? the 5 hour limit starts when you start using it, not at set times (at least this is what i understood to be the case?) - did you type the messages 2 hours ago and then took the screenshot?
If seriouse I think Anthropic changed the agent's algorithm to make it better, but this change resulted in a significant increase in token spending, but they left the limit as before the changes, so the tool is practically unusable... I think they need to re-run the measurements and set up real limits if they don't want to abandon weekly limits, although weekly limits themselves are complete nonsense!
They threw out the baby with the bathwater...
The main consumer of tokens is the thinking function, which was added to claude code with the release of sonnet 4.5 and the subsequent reduction of limits on the Opus model. But this does not change the fact that the $200 subscription has become useless, because without thinking, Sonnet 4.5 works terribly.
You are really making the product worthless
Yeah, I totally agree. I don't get what I paid for. I'm on MAX X20 and got blocker after 4 days. Even with their Claude Code AI project template, Claude Code is now unusable for solo dev. This limit should be AT LEAST doubled, or just removed.
I'm actually considering switching to something else so I can continue to work.
claude has a great AI with great features but they ruin the product by doing so
5 hour limit is ok, but weekly one is stupid, so stupid.
so for a pro plan
first session of the week in 1.5 hour i used 100% and got 12% of weekly
so based on this, weekly can handle only 8 full sessoins
only 12 hours!
**12 4 = 48h in a month so i pay 20$ only for using it in 48 hours!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
I mean c`mon!
👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎👎
an update
%59 of my second session has been filled only by 2 prompts in 5 min
what a joke
The weekly limit is still unclear... am I best off using my weekly limit and then waiting for it to reset... or if I use 90% and it doesn't hit the limit... will I only get 10% more a day or two later and then be surprised by the limit? Is it a kind of rolling limit?
Not only is the weekly limit a product ruining addition, the confusion is brings is enough to make someone cancel.
Nice weekly limits Anthropic, enjoy the wave of cancellations
I've already cancelled my subscription, but I want to put it out there that my weekly reset has moved to Saturday night from the earlier Friday morning.
<img width="606" height="301" alt="Image" src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/41db2154-5e76-41c4-b1e2-ed1f2818c396" />
No, it was like 1.5 hours after the start of the 5 hour widow when I started or something like that, if I recall
Why is this not getting an official answer?
Thanks to this now I am thinking of cancelling my claude subscription.
Edit:
Cancelled.
Must be difficult for a dev team to go to their board members and say "Customers are complaining, you took a bad decision". The only thing shareholders care about is money. They don't care about the customers' feelings and satisfaction anymore.
2025 is the worst dystopia
Cancelling my sub rn
They need to change the weekly updates.. its the so short right now, moved from gpt to here, but now i feel this update ruins it
Let’s be honest: The weekly usage limit system has made paid plans practically unusable.
I am paying, but I cannot use the service.
This is not “Fair access.”
This is customer punishment.
If the goal was to stop account sharing → why are legitimate single-user accounts being throttled?
Upgrading to Max x5 or Max x20 does NOT increase real usage.
Reset times are inconsistent and not transparent.
Users are being cut off mid-project, mid-work-week.
This isn’t an improvement.
It’s bait-and-switch pricing with artificial scarcity.
And here’s the real consequence:
If this continues,
Users will cancel, not “wait it out.”
Professionals will move to ChatGPT, Gemini, and open-source models.
Claude goes from “the best model available” to “the model nobody can actually use.”
We are paying customers, not abusers.
Stop restricting legitimate usage.
I reached the weekly limit of the Max Plan (20x) within just a few days and then purchased extra usage, which was also consumed in a very short time. I’m really wondering if there’s an issue with the calculation of usage or if this is simply rip-off...
The product itself is probably one of the best on the market, but the weekly limits are truly frustrating..
I will continue testing it until the end of the year, but if there are no positive changes by then, I will cancel my subscription.
By observing how administrators delete inconvenient messages, one might conclude that their strategy is to wait until users become accustomed to and accept the new restrictions. As experience shows, this is a dangerous strategy. The largest investors, amazon and google, have become competitors rather than partners and have started asking uncomfortable questions. The folks at Anthropic have decided to urgently optimize costs because they have nowhere else to go and must use the costly AWS infrastructure.
However, this does not mean that you can simply take away a paid tool from your customers. Clearly, the release of sonnet 4.5 was not as successful as expected. The lack of response suggests that the era of mega-cool AI agents at competitive prices is ending due to an inability to deploy a flexible business model.
One of my messages here was deleted where I predicted they would give a free plan while limiting paying customers... and I couldn't been been more correct.
They are giving $250 free credit for Claude Code while limiting paying customers. It is untenable.
They are like a drug dealer who will give you the first hit free.
Joining here as I just upgraded to a $200 contract and now hitting my weekly limit faster than I normally would hit a $90/100 or $20 subscription daily limit. That is unacceptable, I went up for the reason to have apparently 20x more usage, but not it feels to have less than I had with the lower subscription tiers and the weekly one irritates me - we have Wednesday - does that mean I won't have access till Sunday? It's not transparent, confusing and a big step back - I need to plan and with that I cannot plan at all and it is way too expensive for the value I receive - especially as I don't understand why you are not rewarding those that pay more compared to those that pay less? Any pricing/margin perspective here I don't get?
The weekly limit and this 5-hour restriction are poorly designed. It's not a small number of users affected; I suspect a much larger group faces this issue, yet it seems to be overlooked. This situation is problematic because it feels like being cut off from a service you depend on—something that isn't fair given what you've paid for. You see a message stating you're near your weekly limit when the week has just begun, which causes confusion and anxiety among customers. When improvements are made, a mass switch will likely occur, which is typical with software updates. Until then, users are stuck with a frustrating experience that falls short of expectations—not because of the tool's capability, but because of how it's used. This is a backwards situation.
After waiting until 7:00 p.m. to continue working, I already hit the 5-hour rate limit at 7:38 p.m.
And my weekly limit is already at 79%, with the reset scheduled for Nov 11 at 4:49 p.m.
I'm pretty sure the work done isn't that big to consume tokens that quickly!
This is unusable!
I'm writing to report a critical issue with Claude Code's weekly usage limits that has made my $200/month Max 20x subscription effectively unusable for professional work.
Background:
I have been a Claude Code user for approximately 3 months
I subscribe to the Max 20x plan ($200/month) - your highest tier
During these 3 months, I have NEVER hit the daily (5-hour rolling) usage limits
My usage pattern has been consistent and reasonable throughout this period
The Problem:
Since the introduction of weekly usage limits (and particularly after the September 29th Sonnet 4.5 release), I am now hitting the weekly cap within 1-2 days of normal development work. This leaves me unable to use the tool for 5-6 days per week, despite paying for your premium tier.
Impact on My Work:
This situation has severely disrupted my professional workflow. I rely on Claude Code for daily development tasks, and being locked out for most of the week is not sustainable. The weekly limits have essentially made my $200/month subscription worthless, as I cannot count on having access when I need it.
What Makes This Particularly Frustrating:
I never exceeded the 5-hour rolling limits - my usage was always within reasonable bounds
The weekly limits appear to have been significantly reduced without clear communication, especially after September 29th
Even on the highest-paid tier, the service has become unreliable for consistent professional use
Other users are reporting similar issues (see GitHub Issue #9094 and #9424)
What I'm Requesting:
Immediate: An explanation of what changed and why paying customers weren't properly notified
Short-term: Either significantly increase the weekly limits for Max 20x subscribers OR provide API credits equivalent to reasonable usage
Long-term: A sustainable solution that makes the Max 20x plan actually usable for professional development work
I have been a satisfied customer and advocate for Claude, but this situation is forcing me to evaluate alternatives. I would much prefer to continue using Claude Code if we can find a workable solution.
I look forward to your response and a resolution to this issue.
Very well articulated @diegosoek
If I may I'd tack on the requests:

/me returns to refreshing the page waiting for Gemini 3.0 release... 👀
Today, after taking a break from using Claude Code, I launched my first task. After 20 minutes, I started getting error:
Bravo! Yesterday, I created an account on Alibaba Cloud, which was apparently not in vain.
By the way, in response to the comments above: I was prepared to upgrade to a pricier subscription ($300–$400 per month), but I'm increasingly convinced that Antropic strategy is futile. Antropic is currently experiencing a collapse of its subscription model while trapping its users in a quality trap. This creates a short-term "window of survival" for Antropic. They can afford to upset some users because, for now, those users have nowhere to go without experiencing a significant loss in quality and productivity. However, this position is extremely fragile. Antropic must use this time to urgently fix its business model - probably by completely abandoning cheap subscriptions in favor of high-margin corporate plans - before GPT-5 or Amazon Nova catches up with it in terms of quality.
How to learn again to code without claude... :D
I think the weekly limit is just bad. Even using haiku 4.5 instead of sonnet, thinking off, and being careful on keeping the chat compacted and as short as possible, it goes away way too fast.
I was able to work around the 5h limits (around 6 hours of work using 2x5h), but that weekly limit is too much. I'm thinking about canceling everything with anthropic, they kind of broke my trust. Reducing the service while keeping the same price is unacceptable. Their reasons make no sense: there are other ways to figth against real abuse.
edit:
Since my message I found very good alternatives to claude code with a lot of choices of providers and pricing. Now if I'm hitting a limit again, I can continue to work without breaking the wallet. And as soon as my balance with anthropic reach 0, it will surely be bye bye.
I'm experiencing the same critical issue with weekly limits being exhausted far too quickly. As a professional developer with over 20 years of experience running a freelance development business, the current weekly limit system is completely incompatible with professional workflows.
My Experience:
The Problem:
The weekly limit structure doesn't align with how software development actually works. Development tasks aren't evenly distributed - you often need intensive Claude assistance during debugging sessions, architecture decisions, or when tackling complex technical challenges. Being cut off mid-week means:
Business Impact:
I rely on AI assistance as a core productivity tool for my development work. The current limit system makes the subscription unusable for professional use. I'm evaluating alternatives (ChatGPT Plus, API usage, Gemini) as the value proposition no longer makes sense at any tier when you can only work 1-2 days per week.
Request:
Either implement daily limits that reset consistently, or significantly increase weekly quotas to match actual professional usage patterns. The current system feels like paying for a full-time tool that only works part-time.
I have been using claude max (100usd) plan for a few months and have been getting weekly limits now with similar use than before. Seems something have been changed as weekly limit should not come with normal one person use in few days of usage. No sharing or any grey area business here, I expect better!
Anthropic lied, they said this was to tackle account sharing but you can
still rotate and share accounts with a weekly limit? In fact you are
incentivising us sharing our accounts and rotating them.
They cut back access from paying customers and then ran a free $250 credit
beta test, money grubbing scumbags.

I'm new to this weekly limit crap and found this thread. Canceling my subscription until they allow me to use it correctly.
You're paying $200 a month and getting weekly limit? Cancel that shit ASAP, that's insane.
Have been paying for the Max 5x, but am hitting the weekly limits very quickly roughly around 1-2 days into using the subscription. This is entirely unacceptable and have cancelled my subscription.
Here to support all of the above statements. I have been on a MAX plan for a long time. Weekly limits hit and suddenly my moderate level of Claude work, which never went above the 5 hour rolling limit, is now blowing the weekly limit in 1-2 days, thus making my subscription essentially useless for the rest of the week.
Like others here, I am a passionate Claude user and strong advocate for Claude usage, but this is beyond the pale, and I am now looking to move to a different service. It's exacerbated by the utterly confusing twin cap system, lack of clear explanation about the usage limits, and the gate keeping by the horrendously inept AI Agent on the your website.
This weekly limit system needs a drastic review ASAP before you start haemorrhaging subscribers.
I just subscribed one month and suddenly get weekly limit. Did you guys request refund?
It's better for them to use session limiting rather than weekly limiting
저도 1-2일만에 주간 한도에 도달했습니다.
This is really sad! First time seeing it today. Cancelling probably and moving to codex 👋
It's a shame Anthropic is simply ignoring us. I'd even pay $300 for 2x the current $200 subscription limit (yes, 2x, because it's incredibly low right now; at Codex, it's 2-3 times higher, I don't think I spend even 10% a day, working in multiple terminals). So, I canceled my subscription and switched to Codex. Ping me when Anthropic comes to their senses and listens to their users.
This thread now serves as advertising for their competitors to their
highest paying customers. One of the worst business moves I've ever seen in
my life.

Specific Concern: Sonnet Weekly Rate Limits
Adding to this discussion with a Sonnet-specific perspective that may be getting lost in the broader conversation.
The Sonnet Problem
While this issue discusses general weekly quotas, Sonnet has its own separate weekly rate limit that creates additional friction:
Current Experience:
Why Sonnet Limits Matter More
Real-World Impact Example
Professional Development Workflow:
Proposed Solution (Sonnet-Specific)
Minimum Request: 50% increase in Sonnet weekly limits
Better: Tiered limits by subscription:
This would align Sonnet availability with the subscription tier value proposition.
Why This Matters for #9424
Many comments here about "quota exhaustion in 1-2 days" may actually be hitting Sonnet-specific limits rather than general weekly quotas. The two are separate tracking mechanisms.
Request: When addressing this issue, please consider:
Both need attention for Pro/Max users to get the value they're paying for.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code
+1 I'm a pro user and Claude has become unusable for coding work for me. Not sure what changed, but it's unworkable and I really feel like it was not like this in the past. I'm seriously considering cancelling my subscription altogether.
Anthropic is now setting weekly limits so low that claude code is becoming unsable. One session of claude code pro is taking 11% of weekly limit meaning I can barely use it for 3-4 sessions in a week . Earlier I was able to use 9-10 sessions atleast a week.
Anthropic is squeezing in the weekly limits and making claude code unusable.

Not an expert on the topic. My experience with Claude today:
I used one prompt (reworking a class to include inheritance from a base class and adjusting it to match the structure of another existing class). That single prompt consumed 14% of my daily allowance (Pro subscription). The output was so verbose that it didn’t save me any time reading it. Even the basics, such as ensuring consistency, were no longer obvious. Too many inconsistencies. I ended up doing things manually again because I had to double-check so much of the output. It became too costly to request correction after correction.
My locally run models are just as accurate, though slightly slower. I will not renew my yearly subscription when it ends (same for Gemini). Too expensive, and with all those limits, it’s simply not workable. Now even the code quality is declining.
I received the equivalent of $250 in Claude Code access to test the new online version. After it generated a Claude.md file, it became unusable—apparently I hit some limit. You cannot work that way; there’s no point in offering credits if the product is not actually usable.
Bottom line: OpenAI’s products may not be the best, but they are available all day long, and there’s no stress about hitting limits. Claude was better at coding, but it is far too expensive and too restricted. As of today, I cannot consider it the top option for coding anymore—too inconsistent and far too verbose for simple prompts.
Mistral AI: I have not tested the paid version, but the free version seems very good at coding. I have not subscribed because, keeping Claude in mind, it also appears expensive, and I will not pay unless I’m confident I can work a full day without hitting limits.
Gemini: I was drawn in by NoteLM and subscribed. It took eight weeks before the Pro version actually worked. They changed the product right after I subscribed and left me in the dark until it suddenly became available. It turns out Gemini is hard to manage (too aggressive, too incomplete, etc.). There is still a lot of work to do. And, just like Microsoft’s Copilot, there are privacy-related issues depending on your settings.
I just cancelled my Claude subscription and switched to Z.ai. . It’s fully compatible with the Claude Code CLI and the VS Code extension, and it feels shockingly similar to Sonnet 4.5 if not better. In fact, for many tasks where Sonnet failed to do the task correctly, the Z.ai GLM4.6 model did it perfectly.
On top of that, I paid $9 for 3 months (quarterly), and I couldn't hit the limit easily.
Thanks for your suggestion. I will be trying it, or switch to another service because I pay max plan and I wasting 30% usage in only one day regular works. It's crazy

I'm thinking of cancelling myself now and going to codex, waiting on Gemini 3... The 1000 dollar credit for the Web is nice, but seriously different from my flow. Maybe opus 4.5 will drop and I'll change my mind, but it better be like 234578 times better then sonnet
Hey all, limits are documented here: https://support.claude.com/en/articles/11145838-using-claude-code-with-your-pro-or-max-plan#h_50f6dec29d.
@bcherny - Could you also comment on the reason for the faster depletion of the limits compared to earlier months this year? Is it due to a reduction by Anthropic, increased use of "thinking mode" by users, or something else?
@marcindulak claude team is just a bunch of bots, they will just give you a reference to their policies
Hey!
Thanks for the link that I'm sure anyone commenting here has read.
The problem is that it reinforces that perhaps there is a bug with Claude Code that results in a single user being able to consume the 240-480 hours we're meant to get a week in 2-3 days.
I suspect based on personal experience this is in the parallel subagent space, where the pace you can drive at and the delayed accounting means I can not trip a 5hr limit but totally trip a week limit in under 3 days on a max 20x subscription.
I don't think closing the GitHub issue just makes this go away
This is patronising beyond words. We know and understand the "limits" as written on the page . We are telling you there is something wrong and they are not being applied or counted correctly. Hence the BUG report. Perhaps maybe investigate the issue instead of pretending it doesn't exist.
해결되지 않았는데 왜 이슈를 닫는건가요?
thank you very much for the suggestion, I am trying definitively

🚀 bomb!!! if Anthropic doesn't fix the limit, then [Z.ai ](https://z.ai/subscribe?ic=JRGXO5PXIQ )will really be the killer
If this is a business strategy to get users to max plan- it sucks.
I aim for 14% daily spending, sometimes more if I need. Feels so restricted! Today - already 24% up! Can't do anything.
Pressure on Claude more - This will lead to a Claude creating a better product or Claude failing.
I'm facing the same issue. I've never hit my limits before and am now hitting weekly limits in like a day or two.
I'm cancelling my subscription.
Why did this get closed?
@ThariqS ^^
@ThariqS .. we want this re-opened or we'll just start new bug reports
I've been using Claude Code steadily for months. Been on 5x since it came out.
I'm a moderately heavy user. 2 tabs generally running.
Once in a while I hit daily limits. NEVER ever hit weekly limits.
Last week I started to hit more and more daily limits. Then I hit my weekly on Thursday, "heavy week" I assumed.
Then this week, I hit my weekly limit on a Wednesday morning?
Also noticing a lot of compaction going on more frequently than before.
It is really more noticeable now. Just a few commands and then it compacts over and over again.
This is super frustrating.
I didn't close the issue nor do I have the permission to reopen it :(

Hey @bcherny any official line on this thread beyond 'not an issue'?

Yeah, okay. You are clearly playing the Overvaluation game, there. Like everyone else.
I'm done. I don't want to pay 200$ per month to a company that insults their customers without hiding it.
This way of considering customers has to stop. It's almost everywhere, today. But don't forget, we are the payers. Without our money, you are nothing more than a fancy heuristic algorithm.
In economics, you learn that Customers have needs. Therefore you can sell a solution to those needs.
Currently, big tech companies try to UNO reverse this principle. They try to sell a product, no matter what the customers need. For profit. Always for profit.
I advise you to prepare yourself for another economic lesson. The AI bubble will explode, eventually. Like every time people become too greedy. Overvaluation, circular financings, unsustainable spendings.
Accelerationism is over. So get real before you lose everything.
let anthropic = "Bots"
I have the impression that more intensive use of Claude affects the rate of consumption of the weekly limit in a non-linear way. It's similar to a progressive restriction mechanism. If this is the case, it's doubly unfair, as it negates the assessment of remaining capacity. For example, my load is uneven, sometimes I have to use Claude in parallel for several tasks, and I see the limit usage increase non-linearly.
What the hell have you done with these limits? From being unable to work to unpredictability... I don't even know which is worse.
What is this ridiculous mess. I am being limited by the hours I use this thing and new by weekly limits on top???
Stop this now!!!
@mgarbs and anyone else who still cares at this point, here is the response that we got from ThariqS last night in the earlier aggregator issue for this problem:
Once again dodges the actual issue being reported and manages to be patronizing at the same time. (They seem think that we are all a bunch of context management noobs who are whining because we don't know how to use their product properly.) He did at least say that if we have more "questions", he would be happy to clarify. Could try taking him up on that....
Also, many of the issues that I linked in #9094 are still open if you want to try piling comments into them, in the vain (?) hope that Anthropic will pay attention to what they are actually being told rather than what they want to believe they are being told. But, I'm mostly done with Anthropic at this point. Will miss Claude.
Since I subscribed to Claude Pro, all I received were emails claiming they had to restrict use of the tool due to so-called “abuses.” In reality, the service was largely unusable, as many others have already reported, so I cancelled my subscription.
On top of that, the code it generated was poor. It was inconsistent and repeatedly failed to implement features I explicitly requested. I followed all their recommendations—using projects, preparing a comprehensive contextual document—yet the more I worked with it, the less I could actually ask. Reviewing the output now, I ended up discarding everything; it was simply too far off to be usable.
After a month on 5x, I had reached the limits, and I had to upgrade. In 4 days, I've reached the weekly limits, and my overall workload has increased maybe 2x than on 5X. To say that I am frustrated is to say nothing.
