Environment

  • OS: macOS 26.6.2 (build 25G83)
  • Claude Code version: 2.1.266
  • Terminal: cmux 0.64.22 (build 102), Ghostty-based terminal
  • Font: Inconsolata Nerd Font Mono, version 3.000 (Nerd Fonts 3.5.1)
  • Shell: zsh 5.9.2

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The assistant response marker glyph (⏺, confirmed U+23FA BLACK CIRCLE FOR RECORD via codepoint inspection) that precedes assistant text and tool-use lines renders very large in some terminal/font combinations, which is visually distracting during normal use.

Describe the solution you'd like
A setting (e.g. in settings.json) to either:

  • Choose a different glyph for this marker, or
  • Control its size/weight independently of surrounding text, or
  • Disable/hide it entirely

Describe alternatives you've considered
Switching terminal fonts works around the sizing issue but isn't a real fix — it forces a tradeoff between font choice and marker size, and doesn't help on setups where the fallback glyph is still oversized.

Additional context
A related issue, #39881 ("Add setting to remove ⏺ symbol"), requested similar functionality but was closed as "not planned" and auto-closed by the stale-issue bot without much traction. Filing this separately with a narrower, fully-configurable ask rather than a fixed dev-chosen size, in case that changes the calculus.
